General Electric MM9 Wringer Washer...

A few weeks ago i bought my first wringer washer. It is in very very good condition, the only thing wrong, the agitator feels loose. What can be the problem? And how can i revive the rollers a bit? They are not completely dried out, but its starting to crack. And the oil looks like grease, must it be that thick consistency? Ive put in a bit of car transmission oil. I also registered on the automaticwasher.org website and posted there before about my easy spindryer, but i cant seem to log in or post with my vacuumland username?

Most agitators were meant to be removed when you were done washing, so the machine could dry out. I'll bet the grease was thick gear oil once upon a time.

Thank you for your reply, ive managed to remove the nut that holds the agitator in place, it seems the previous owner removed the agitator to clean it and just screwed it back in halfway and the screw got stuck halfway in due to dirt and rust. Its now working perfectly, ive replaced some of the oil with car transmission oil and i left some of the greasy stuff there so that if it was a thick fluid it can just dilute some of the grease. It works, touch wood, i hope the transmission fluid is sufficient.

ATF will probably dissolve the old thickened oil, so probably a good idea. Probably check on the oil condition in a year or so.
