Why are Dysons so horrible?

Help Support VacuumLand:

We solved the Die-Soon pandemic here in Columbia by bumping up service charges. Our city is around 150k-175k residents and we are the only store in town. The nearest store is across the river in another county and most Columbians will not go across the river to shop.

To service a Dyson, look at a Dyson, even take in a Dyson repair, its $69.99. That is more than 10% of the original cost of the machine and most people will just trade them in on a new machine. If they think that is too high, I direct them to our nearest competitor 25 miles away. They take up too much space and they are too much of a pain even look at them.

When I first seen the Dyson at Sears, I could't belive the price, I looked I vacuumed, I left. I went home and ordered a Hoovermore power-drive from e-bay. The friend that worked there at the time said she had not seen so many vacuums come back in one month. She said people were complaining that they were not very user friendly or the brush was noisey or they didn't seem to pick up the dog fur like there old vacuums. She said she never sold so many Kenmores back to back in a month.
I was never impressed but I did and do still want one some day just to have.

My BF sis in law cleans for a friend of hers and just recently brought me the DC 24 and said "it wont pick up I think its clogged". So after I unclogged it of One mascara tube a crayon,a crayola marker cover, a kids memory game piece, and a ton of cat fur, I cleaned the filters and let them dry n decided to give it a run through the house. . .
Still not impressed.I vacuumed The rug I had just vacuumed with my Kenmore canister w/o the power nozzle(ceased end caps)and I really only got about a teaspoon of "grit" and a small amount of cat hair in the bin.
The tools were a joke, and it did take some getting used to the ball. If I did get a Dyson I would definatly have to invest in the 85 dollar deluxe tool kit, witch for a 500.00 vacuum I think that should come with it.
Ive also used the DC25?animal(the purple non ball) at a friends house and I think that one picked up much better and her filters were dirty.(till I got donr lol).
Anyway Im bored at work so im going on lol. Im not a Dyson fan but I do think it is one of the better bagless vacuums, but still not worth the price.

I don't have a Dyson and as eager as I usually am to try all popular vacs, I've never had the least inkling to have a Dyson.

But I must say that when I read customer ratings or blogs, most Dyson users are adamant about their love for their Dyson. I don't think I've ever seen any one brand that has such a unanimous and loyal user following.

My guess is because people think that since they paid top dollar for them, then they don't have to maintain them, and that would be why they are in for repair a lot. Also, as mentioned above, since so many people buy them. They are also not easy for a normal person to put a belt on, and that is what I see most of them in for repair for. They are actually very good vacuums.

The problem with dyson

is lack of maintence, like chase said. and people who think that since it's a 500 dollar vacuum it can take a heavy beating, which is not true.
If you wash the filter's every 6 months like your susposed to
and dont beat the hell out of it IT WILL clean well for you.
Im not saying dyson's are amazing because their really not.
But they aren't junk either.

"Remember the Sharper Image stores? They were one of th

Yes, and why was that? For years and years prior, Sharper Image sold ORECK. That was, of course, until Oreck came out with a better air purifier than SI's Ionic Breeze. Out of spite, SI dropped Oreck and marketed Die-soon instead. Say what you will about the Oreck, it's a far simpler, more energy efficient design. I have a DC07, and a DC15, and I dislike them both. For what you pay on a Die-soon, at the very least, it should still be manufactured in the U.K. Just my two cents....

I sold my Dyson last week

I tried this machine and and I don't like it.I found a pristine simplicity 7000 series and I find it to be a far superior vacuum, much better carpet cleaning, easier to service, and a lot less noise.

I haven't had the opportunity to use a Dyson yet so I can't really weigh in. The all plastic design looks really cheap to me. I can imagine that many people have thrown out great vacuums in favor of the Dyson. We all know that marketing plays a huge roll in Dyson sales.

While watching HSN one afternoon I heard the host flat out lie about the Dyson’s belt. She said the belt lasts for the lifetime of the unit and never needs replacing and it was one of the older yellow models she was demonstrating. The older models use a flat belt just like many other vacuums. We all know that belts eventually stretch out and break. The marketing tactics that Dyson uses bothers me.

Sorry guys I am not into all the Dyson hype but I haven’t used one so I really can’t judge. Users’ not performing maintenance plays a huge roll. While I was in the vacuum shop yesterday buying bags for my Dial-A-Matic there were at least three other customers in the shop with very simple problems. One man walked in carrying his Riccar shaking his head and said “My belt is broken again”. And the women replied at the counter “Well, Sir when the vacuum gets caught in a rug the belt is almost going to break immediately”. It seems after each passing year the world is growing stupid when it comes to common sense.

The reason for that piece of plastic's high price is so we can all see some bad toothed brit (no offense to all Brits) on TV hyping his piece of crap. Anyone who would rip-off the Fantom concept, and then try to rebrand it as a confusing and ugly piece of junk has got to be a genius.

I hope you all have been to 'Best Buy' to see his new fan without blades. Talk about something completely useless. $299 for a fan is just crazy.

By the way- 2 more in so far this morning.

And the Dyson brush

I was amazed how cheap and light weight the brush is on my DC7 animal you cant tell me that thing really deep cleans carpet,so glad its gone. Give me a Kirby or Simplicity any day over one of those Dysons.

Hey Chris....

I'm no "fan" of bagless machines, no matter what brand, but I think the Iona-Fantom company actually bought the rights to the cyclonic design from the Dyson company. Dyson did not rip off the concept from Fantom. Just to be fair to them.

I am actually more concerned about the fact that all the Dysons are made in Malaysia now - a country that is not very progressive when it comes to certain minorities.

Fantom licensed the cyclonic patents from Dyson

that is true

i have a thunder and fury and find the build quality MUCH better than the dyson. i really like the look of the fury, very futuristic, much so than the dyson

the dyson looks like the inside of a vac, meaning the cover removed to show the workings

I agree with you, Joe. Fantom WAS a much better build quality than Dyson, as is the Amway Cleartrak. Of the Fantoms, I think I like the Thunder the best. It's amazing for a machine that's purportedly so "high tech" Mr. Dyson has yet to incorporate a headlight on any of his machines.

I stand corrected!!

Thanks for the info, I've always thought it was the other way around- either way the Dyson is still a piece of junk.

I am thankful to James Dyson because every Dyson that comes in the store is slapped with a nice $70 fee for service. Maybe it has just been one of those months where everyone's Dyson is broken, but I feel this is only the beginning of the repair trend. Dyson is heavily saturated now because of Wal-Mart (in SC Wal Marks). As long as people keep buying and repairing them, I'll just vent to you guys!
