Westinghouse Converto-Vac Manual spotted on eBay

This is an eBay auction for an incomplete set of Hoover tools - Priced at $19.99 plus $17.00 s/h. Kind of pricey overall, but I spotted a WH Converto-Vac manual within the box. I wouldn't imagine that these manuals are especially common, so I wanted to call attention to it in case anyone is...

Anyone know What vintage Kirby this is from ?

Yes, this site is a great venue for gaining knowledge, I'm not denying that at all. Based on your age displayed in your profile, I had assumed that you would recognize a Concept One bag, as I would again assume that you remember them being in the stores being sold new. Also, having seen your...

Anyone know What vintage Kirby this is from ?

Well, for me personally - face value, it tastes a bit like you're taking advantage of the members of this site. Purposely starting a thread about a Kirby part, when you knew it wasn't, so you could glean information to basically write your eBay listing. Maybe I'm the only one thinking it...

Anyone know What vintage Kirby this is from ?

LOL - selling a "musty" (per your auction description) bag with a buy it now for $38 and change. That's more than a complete vacuum is worth. Good luck with that. I see you're location is St. Paul - yet the auction location is Pewaukee, WI. This was a point of contention in a recent...

Found Childhood Dream Machine: Hoover Model 69

The model 69 is a favorite among many collectors. Congratulations on a really nice find! That machine looks to be in great shape!

    Vintage Lewyt Video

I saw this Diesel commercial many years ago (it's a favorite brand of mine) and wondered where the footage came from. I'd love to find the entire video!

Kenmore Singer Hoover Anser Wizard Uprights

Being a collector for +/- 25 years now, that's the first time I've ever seen an actual picture of one of those Hamilton Beach uprights from the 60s/70s. I've never seen one in person, nor do I know of anyone who has one (other than the one in this picture, labeled a Wizard). I've seen the...

    Best Vacuums For Palm Springs

Wow, I'd never given much thought to the 'type' of dirt in Palm Springs - makes total sense about all of the dust and sand. It's a shame that the Hoovers don't really push very well on the carpet - have you tried one of your Hoovers that has a 4-position height adjustment? I agree with Tom...

700 and an old GE upright.

Wow, that 700 is turning out to be quite beautiful, Brandon! I encountered a former club member back in 2004 or 2005 who found a pretty neat solution for the bumper problem. It's not factory original, but it worked pretty well. He removed the old bumper, rivets and all, then he got a black...

700 and an old GE upright.

It's looking really good, Brandon. I'm still drooling over that bag you have. Ugh, it's so pretty! Similar design, but different colors than what's on the all original model 150 I recently found: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?31185_28~1

Is it worth it to fix this Hoover TurboPower?

Those tiny front PN wheels quite frequently went missing. I think they were mostly there in case you wanted to take the PN onto a bare floor. Many PNs don't have front wheels, so I think you could probably get away with skipping those for now, holding out until you find a parts donor, or the...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

I think that armature looks great. Add some new carbon brushes to the mix, and hopefully a new upper motor bearing, and you will be Hoovering again in no-time. I do love the model 719 - it was the first Convertible of that style that I ever had; was given to me by an elderly couple when I was...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

I don't think you need to put the motor in a drill; you could, just be careful not to bend or strip any of the threading which the fan nut screws onto. Also be careful not to damage the upper part of the armature, the part which fits into the upper bearing. See the following two pictures -...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

Those stones will last for years - many, many, many rebuilds. I've been on the same set of stones for at least the past 5 years. Consider all of the time and money I'd have spent if I took every armature into a motor shop every time I serviced a machine. -Gas to drive it there -They...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

Thanks for the clarification and the advice. I'll have to look into finding a local motor rebuild shop that will do that if I ever find an armature that has too much of a wear groove in it (usually I have spares, and just swap the part for a new one). I certainly didn't mean to question your...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

Well, for those of us who aren't able to go to the lathe store and pick up a lathe, the stones work just fine. I've rebuilt hundreds of vacuum cleaner motors over the years, the majority of those being Hoover Convertibles, and have never once had a problem using them. I still maintain that you...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

If you use sandpaper, do it dry, I imagine. I personally use commutator cleaning stones and have always had good luck with those; that's what we used whenever I worked in a vacuum store. There's one that is a rubberized abrasive stone which I use before I wash an armature - then I use a...

    Hoover Convertible Motor Troubleshooting

Can you post any pictures of the machine? How about a model number? Have you tried completely rebuilding the motor instead of hypothesizing about what's wrong? That's what I do with most all of my machines, and they all run very nicely.

Vintage Photo: Central Vacuum Service, St. Petersburg Florida

And being in the mortgage industry - I know my way around a county tax assessor's website. LOL. I found another query about older sales - looks like the building sold in 1992 and 1996 as well - rather, deeds were processed. I suppose that doesn't mean that the business in the building went...
