700 and an old GE upright.

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

This is just a guesstimate but I would assume it to be a mid 30s, early 40s replacement.
The early 30's replacements just look somewhat similar to original bag.

(Unrelated, It's good to meet another Fur in the vacuum hobby)

I was wondering about that but its alright.

That 700 looks pretty amazing, even more so with its original bumper. A model 800 is on my wanted list lol, they're great vacuums with art deco styling. :)

My collection is rather small. (mostly due to space) I have my Model 700, My Hoover Dustette model 1015, Hoover Portable, and Kirby G4 Diamond edition.
The only machines that were restored were my 700 and my Portable.

(Sorry for the somewhat old dark photos)

Awesome! Never seen a portable in person. Kind of elusive.

When I lived at my parents I hid vacuums from my father. I at one time had 40 vacuums hidden in two double door closets in my bedroom and my brothers bathroom. So yea.... That along with finding out I was a furry was pretty... Crazy. Sold the collection and moved out. After two and a half years I've decided to get back into it! Living with non judgmental crazy furries is awesome.

All nice machines, though its a shame you don't have them anymore. I think I would refer to that as "Character" :P Doesn't appear to be that bad.

This is what my 700 looked like before I got through it.

Awesome! My 575 spent about 50 years under a crawl space below a house where hot wet environments ate away the finish, bag box and cord. But it ran incredibly smooth and silent.

They come up every now and then on eBay, I got mine off eBay about 2 years ago all for $35 it was REALLY beat to hell and back. One thing that killed off these Portables were failing motors. I regularly lubricate mine and haven't had any problems since then.

Hot dang, you managed to hide 40 vacuums? I can barely fit 4 in my own bedroom. (Along with my other vintage appliances) I've been collecting since 2014. More than just vacs, fans, tube radios, computers, and old video game systems.
As long as my stuff works and helps around the house my parents are alright with my collection. They also don't know I'm a fur. Even though I have portraits and badges of my fursona on my walls lol.

Yeeeeesh that's quite heavily damaged.... It looked quite intact too! The tools with the cardboard box are hard to come by.

Oh sure thing! Though I might respond tomorrow, since I'm pretty darn exhausted today.

The GE it gonna come out quite nicely with a polish! And its pretty sweet that you don't have to wash out the bag on it as well.

Nice Hoover, Brandon! From what I can tell, that bag looks like it's from a model 26; which was in production from 1938-1941. I'm surprised that you got that bag wet; I'm always so careful with those old original bags - they see water and tend to shrink. I'd also be scared that the graphic would come off. The bag is also on the bag ring backwards; the graphics should be front-facing. Thanks for sharing, and whatever you do, hang on to that bag!

Thanks Fred! Feels good to have a coffee can back in my arms.

The bag was so gross I tried vacuuming it a few dozen times with no luck getting it unclogged. The machine sat in less than optimal conditions near a furnace since the building was built in '45.

I may have gotten lucky with the wash. The logos came out clean and I used very little delicate fabric detergent. I washed a few older bags couple years ago same method. Hopefully I'll be in luck.

First thing I'll do is reverse the bag when it's done drying!

Not touching the General Electric bag because it looks unused and the silver print appears to be quite thin.

Got the bag on. Looks and smell much better.

Accidentally broke the fragile original bumper. Will have to attempt and reglue it back together. Or replace if I must.

Going to put a new cord on as well. Just have to find a smooth rubber cord somewhere. going to retain original plug of course.

Finally got my buffing tools.

Made a bit of progress today and the base of the machine. Lots to go still. Only about half the base has been polished. Had to stop to clean the buffing wheel

Shame on the beautiful bumper being in pieces.

I'll just have to source a belt for it and it's good to go. Brush roll is in excellent condition and it runs well in both speeds.

My main focus has been the 700 total makeover.

Thanks Fred! You're right on the bags. Seems yours is more shades of grey and a bit of blue while mine is black and grey. Would be a fitting 150 replacement for sure. I'm very happy with how this bag turned out. Not usually fond of replacement bags but this one is beautiful and very fitting
