I brought this old beast hiome the other day, and it was in a bad way. You would plug it in, turn it on, and it would make a horrid grinding/squealing noise and shoot sparks out the back of the motor!

Well, After I got it home, looked it over, and started work on it, I was determined to bring it back to life. First I took the motor apart and found most of the problem, it had been greased WAY too much, and the old grease was on the carbon motor brushes, the commutator and the rotor windings. After cleaning out the motor, lubing it sparingly with 30 Wt non detergent, and re wiring it it runs smoothly and doesn't shoot sparks!

Now what model is it? 9 or 10, or something else?

I need to make a new front wheel for it, probably going to get a dowel rod the same size as the other wheel and use that. Also have some more polishing to do as well. Too bad it doesn't have the hose or tools, but it does have a worn out brush that went on the floor nozzle.

Nope, that posting of mine "way back when" is an error. I believe it is a Model 10.

ok, so it's either a 10 or 9, I'm leaning towards a 9, because the 10 has the wheels on the machine itself, whereas the 9 (like mine) has the wheels on the nozzle.

And at around 90+ years old, it's one of my oldest vacs, right there with the Hoover Duster! I'd like to see a vac from a big box store last 90+ years!

To the left is a 1927 Eureka model 10, and to the right is a 1923 version of the 1921 model 9. I have a spare wheel assembly if you need it.

This is the "Holy Grail" of Eureka repairman books. It covers 1936 all the way back to the model A ( AKA Model 1 ). No doubt about it, yours is a early model 9.

Ok, see no way to send a PM, so I'd be interested nonetheless.
You wouldn't happen to also have the "spring" that holds the handle up too, would you? It's a metal strip with a loop in the end that is on the back of the fan housing, and it locks the handle in the upright position.

KirbysNphones,

On the top right of the page is the MSG block - Press on it to get into your messages. Then, you will see a thin rectangle at the top right, highlighted light blue - click on it. Then find cb123 on the member list - click that in and you will be able to send me a message with your address. Calem

Says it's for "upgraded users only". seriously they block too much stuff for the "regular" users. Most other forums have the messaging system available to ALL users.

Email me at [email protected] that email is so full of spam, I really don't care who knows it. Let me know on here, so I know to check it.

Will,

This is the "Edison Victrola" - I think it's from between 1910 to 1915 (Not Sure)But it has the Edison model 1 motor, and the cabinet has some marked differences then the later "Victors". This thing is almost as loud as a modern stereo record player, and the fidelity is pretty high too. The vanes in front is how you can control the volume. Thirty cranks and it's good for one side of a disc. Think about becoming an upgraded member - you want have to suffer thru the agonizing commercials anymore!

Will, just one more thing...

I almost forgot, post here when you get your parts in - so that I know if you got'em or not. Thanks, Calem

Thanks! That is one cool record player too. I am seriously thinking of upgrading, but not because of the adverts, as I don't see any! (I use Adblock Plus in Firefox) :)

Happy thanksgiving!
Will
