Warped out of balance agitator causes

On Saturday I picked a Riccar 4810 for $5.00. After a bit of research I discovered this is really an older Vibrance model (correct?) I’m not that familiar with Riccar. The color of the vacuum is unique to me. It has some issues. The main issue is the out of balance agitator. The housing is not damaged and the noise is coming from the agitator. What causes a warped agitator is it heat? Stalling for a minutes on a sock or something? I may have answered my own question.

I don’t come across agitators this badly warped often.

kenny i had a problem like that with my brand new GE u-1 brushroll from marc turbyfill. thats why it was so rattly at the convention. the wood core is physically not straight. so i think it can be a defect in the manufacturing or where it's stored could play a roll too.

Is that a wooden brush roll, if so moisture could have caused it.

I have seen Lux brush rolls that warped due to being stored in damp places.

Worst case scenario it could be warped from water damage or humidity, best case scenario the bearings are worn and put too much play in the brushroll.

Brushroll is wood, so it likely is warped from humidity or was in a flood and got soaked, then dried out again and also warped. You'd have to remove it from the vacuum and spin it on a lathe to see where it's warped at. To my knowledge this can't be fixed (unless maybe you steamed it and put conmcrete blocks on the crown of the warped section and push it flat again), would have to buy a new brushroll most likely. I don't think they are that hard to find parts for, shouldn't be too bad to get a new roller.

Yes, it is a wood brush roll. I didn't think about that.

It happens. And a new one isn't expensive. That's why I keep two or three in stock always.

Quality Control at the factory where the brushes are made is poor. Quality Control at the Tacony factory checked all the brush rolls for proper balance and rejected a great number. My friend Brenda worked that station at the factory. Wood brush rolls were rarely the problem, out of balance steel brush rollers were extremely common. Glad they used to have someone to catch that.

Nice machine. The plastic handle models were the budget models, but they cleaned just as good as the more expensive ones.

That's good to know. I didn't think a sock or something jamming the brush roll would cause it.
