A month ago I found this discarded rainbow in a pile of trash waiting for the trash man. Cord chompers already beat me to the cord. Didn’t cut the power nozzle cord which is bazaar. Still had the As advertised in parenting magazine tag on it. Only thing I could find wrong was a broken belt. I probably already know the answer to this question. Is this an early D3? Because the power nozzle has no suction relief and a different elbow neck.

Ben Edge or Tom Gasko will know this better than anyone else. From what I can see, it's probably one of the first Rainbow-built power nozzles being that it's not built by Eureka and because it has the older style 3 prong connector. I believe the D3A's were still coming with Eureka built power nozzles initially but I am not sure.

I have no idea why people are so dumb to cut cords still. You can go to Dollar Tree and get a new extension cord to cut up for $1. Senseless.

Wow...

What you found there is one of the proverbial hens teeth. Those power nozzles with the square neck and no suction relief are almost non existent. That's the first D3 that had a rexair built pn. They also usually had four wheels on the pn instead of two. Two in the normal position and two built into the bottom plate. Original brown hose two I see. It should say D3A on the bottom. Also had the 3 wire on cord, that's probably why they didn't clip it. Wouldn't be of any particular use unless they had this or a D2. Probably left in a house or something, and a younger person just thought it was some old vac and pitched it. That would be my guess. I've wanted to come across one of these for years. Tom G had a post somewhere here or on fb about the nib one he has.

Sorry for the errors in spelling, and I left out a word or two, as far as making proper sentences, lol. I just have to acknowledge it, lest anyone think I'm one of the many people online who can't spell, or make coherent sentences, or write like they text.

Hey Kenny:
Wow. Congratulations. That is so rare. I would love to help rebuild the motor in that. You have a D3A, which launched in April 1980. That was the first Rexair-built power nozzle. It launched in late summer of 1980. You do have one of the first of the 'all new' D3 series.

The instruction manual said to turn the curved wand for the power nozzle around so the weight of the hose didn't pull the thing over in storage position.

Under the dust, under the dome, this is what your Rainbow looks like. I love the look of this model.

Thanks Tom. It's hard for me to stomach what people throw out. Actually, the motor sounds good. It's kind of odd how the elbow unlocks. Like I have to lift up the PN for it to unlock.

They did that to keep the handle upright but them all broke. Also, the wand doesn't have 'much' of a swivel to it. The change to the neck came early in 1981, about six months after the launch of the nozzle. They also added the airflow adjustment at the same time.

Does your soleplate have two wheels or four?
