What would be a good shop vac for cleaning dirty or vintage vacuum parts, such as a Kirby or Royal bag? I would most likely use it bagless, since I would want to get rid of whatever was in the vacuum quikly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I dont quite understand what the difference would be if it was bagged. Pity the Numatic Henry has only just got to the U.S - its one of the most versatile tubs I know for lots of cleaning applications and it can be used without a bag.
The vacuum places I knew used older Filter Queen vacuums as a "bench" vacuum to clean customers machines.I would think if you use a 2" hose Shop Vac-it would to be large and clumsy.A Shop Vac is designed for just that-a workshop-for vacuuming sawdust and such from workbenches and shop floors.and using the large paper bags in them is SO MUCH easier!No having to try to clean pleated filters!
The vac shop I know of now uses a Meile canister vacuum to clean customers machines with.At home I use my NSS M1 to clean vacuums I get from yard sales and such.Does a great job.

an old Filter Queen is perfect for this task. If you do go with a shop vac, definitely get one that takes a big bag. I thought I would try a bagless one at the shop, and it is disgusting and nasty to clean the pleated filter regularly.

The Vacmaster vacuum--sounds good for a Shop Vac "Clone"If you try to use this one for workshop duty-the inch& quarter hose will clog quickly if you try to pick up wood shavings or chips.Otherwise it should do OK.Does Vacmaster offer disposable bags to fit their machine?

For vacuums with bags, I take them apart and use my Dirt Devil 150 to vacuum the bag out, or just my henry/medi-vac 
My favourite part of taking apart vintage vacuums has to be cleaning the bag out. Nothing like a clean , fresh smelling bag!

The vacuum for vacuuming vacuums. Well, I've got a couple that I use. Mainly, I use a little Electrolux Harmony (made by Eureka). It has very good suction which is adjustable by motor speed. Downside, it takes tiny bags but they are fairly inexpensive. Very good filtration. The machine is small and sits on a chair right next to my work table.
The two kitty litter boxes are adjacent to my work table area, so I just change to two wands and a floor attachment to get the stray sand on the floor. Don't even have to move the machine.
I also have an old (fac. refurb.) Electrolux L, an ugly and utilitarian machine. This one I use mainly when I work out of doors in good weather. Yes, I have a work area outside that I like to use when weather permits. Just today I worked on a Hoover SP. For the L, I have scores of bags to use up.

I would think it would work well...I've used one for that back when I had one. The only thing is the bag would clog fairly easy on the Connie. My Kenmore Whispertone did well with generic Micro fresh bags Wally world used to sell.

Since the Vacmaster can use disposable bags-this could make for a good "bench" vacuum-the smaller size hose would be good for cleaning customer machines-and when the Vacmaster dies--just get another one!Could also see this as another "disposable" cleanup vacuum for contractors and drywallers.And it appears that the Vacmaster 5 Gal machine could fit under a vacuum techs workbench!

Has anybody had any experience with the floor tool, that is sold separaty, with the retractable bristles. I was wondering if they lasted a long time. If this goes on sale sometime in the future, I might buy one to go on my MightyMite, but don't want to waste my money on a piece of junk. What's your opinion on this?
