Well, the rare Johnson-Wax polisher that I won on eBay arrived today. (See my earlier post entitled ]

I was very worried when I saw the top of the handle grip sticking out bare.

Oh Dear God, pleeeeeeeease don't let it be broken!

Well, the brittle plastic handle made it safe and sound, so hopefully the rest of it is okay as well. Oh Dear God, pleeeeeeeeeeeease don't let it be broken!

One very tiny disappointment -- it's not the model I thought it was. In the listing photos it appears to be metallic dark blue; however, it's actually a dark turquoise. It's darker in color than my similar 'standard' model, but not the still-elusive metallic dark blue model I'm still hoping someday to find.

The handle grip and rubber bumper are gray instead of white, and it has a heavy-duty black cord which I am sure is original because it's got the same exact plug as my other JW polishers, and the cord's outer jacket is the same ribbed vinyl.

It's a model RP-59 btw. "59" designates the year, 1959. I'm not sure what "RP" stands for. "HP" on the other models indicates "Household Polisher." The first turquoise model is an HP-54. I'll have to ask my buddy who used to work for Johnson Wax about it.

Here's the HP-54 for comparison.

Showing the reduction gear system which creates excellent, very powerful torque. Furthermore, note the double-belt system which divides the strain between the two belts. In all these years, with all the Johnson Wax polishers I have or have had, I've never gotten one with a broken belt. We're talking about machines 50 to 54 years old!!

Obviously, I'm not sorry to have this since it's a model I did not have, and in fact did not even know existed. It will be lovely when I spruice it up.

It's just not the metallic dark blue model... *sigh*

Charlie,

I'm as bummed out as you are that you didn't find your dream waxer. If I ever find one, it's yours.

But anyway, just keep lookin'. I've always wanted a Hoover 28 (for years), and finally found a beautiful one in mint condition with the original box and attachments with the caddy, etc (more on that in a couple weeks).

i remember few years ago some one had a hoover z come in a big ball of bubble wrap, no box, just bubble wrap

Here are the "after" photos...

I'm very pleased at how nicely this polisher came out, especially since the former Johnson Wax polisher repairman told me he's never even seen this model! So apparently it's quite rare.

I'm working on a video for YouTube. When it's uploaded I'll post the link to it.

The polisher is beautiful Charles. Use to love Beautiflor, Do you know of any product you can get today that similar?

Beautiflor IS great floor wax, and it's a shame it's no longer made. In addition to being terrific wax, it also smells great! Walking into my apartment after I've done the floors and catching that faint scent in the air "takes me back to days of yore" when I was a little boy and Mama would use Beautiflor with her Electrolux polisher. It has a very distinct fragrance.

The closest thing I know of that is still fairly readily available is Bruce Liquid Floor Wax. The last time I was at OSH (Orchard Supply & Hardware) they still carried it.

Thanks for the information Charles. Is the Bruce only for wood floors? I too remember the great smell of Beautiflor and Bruce products.
