P.S. Your model list of spec's draws parallels to those of auto's. It seems that electric floor care companies such as Hoover and Eureka, mimicked auto manufacturers' trim packages by offering so many designs and options - especially since the Sixties. In turn, lettered model ID's and names resemble those of antique vehicles. However, since the floorcare cleaning companies haven't followed suit in publishing model spec's like the auto industry, details such as yours are valuable. Thanks again.

I think I found the differences and changes of models 1-5. I am unsure on the model 6, it was only made from January to April, roughly 10000 units so finding one will be near impossible. I assume it is much like the model 7.

Model 1: No front wheels, clip on rear wheels. Has a large porcelain switch on the handle, cord plugs into the handle end. No chain or spring for the bag clip. Uses a ball socket for the handle that can be tightened into any position.

Model 2: The same as a model 1, but with a slightly more streamlined head and front wheels added onto the nozzle. This model also has a spring or chain on the bag clip to keep it in place. It is unknown if this model retains the large porcelain wall switch.

This poorly taken reversed photo is the only picture evidence I can find of a model 3. It has the hook for a bag chain so it had one at one point. The serial number in the title of the Worthpoint listing dates it to be a model 3. If someone has a model 3, I would love to see a pic. It can be seen that instead of having a blank space on the back of the motor for the clip on wheels, it features a spot for a bolted on caster(which has been removed). This model also has the ball socket handle hinge, and is the last one to have it.

Model 4: The first to have a real handle fork, it is very primitive and offers no method of stopping the handle upright. There is a way to lock it into one usage position if desired. There is no switch, it turns off when the handle plug is removed. This is the last model to feature a wood handle, and the last not to have cord hooks. It is also the last to have the front cap, and the only model to have the two front wheels concealed in the head.

A lot of speculation on this one.

This I believe to be a model 5. I cannot prove it for sure until I see one with the serial number in view, but it makes the most sense. Numerous patents updating the Eureka vacuum were filed in mid 1915, and the 5 came out in mid 1915. They streamlined the head, made it have the ability to fold down to access the hose port, and portrayed it with a metal, heavily curved handle. This model also shows the carried over single rear wheel(not caster) placed in the center of the motor, which was presumably carried over from the 4. The handle is shorter and more curved as well. The bag is an obvious replacement.

A disclaimer. A lot of the info on models 1-5 I posted is based on observation and speculation. If you have concrete evidence on any of the machines, please post it. I just want the early history of Eureka vacuums to be as complete as possible.

Give me a favor please.

Do you have eureka model data sheet after 1947? Im trying to make a evolution of eureka vacuums and wanted another sheet after 1947, please and thank you.

The original page of this was posted on here by someone who never posted again. I could get you the first few models made after the D272, but after that the page gets too blurry to read and no other pages like it are included in the pics.

Thank You Very Much Kieran ,this thread is one of the most interesting on the site !

Romain,

If you are lucky, you can find a vintage Singer vacuum cleaner that was made by Eureka and sold in France. It was a Singer version of the little Eureka canister cleaner called the Princess. I will see if I can find the old eBay France listing that I saw a few months ago.

Kieran,

Sorry. Not trying to hijack.
In that link that you posted; my phone is old, and will only let me see the first picture.
But, in the paperwork laid out in front of the vacuum, that manual or whatever it is that's in color, with the rays of sunshine look to it, needs to be reproduced as artwork in some form!
A tin sign...something!

Barry

enchanted BRIAN ! are you from montreal ? Are you English or French speaking?
Brian and Kieran I don't know at all the history of EUREKA on British territory !
this mixture of model 11 and D made in England is in superb condition in its box with the papers and all the original tools ! What is its value ? and how high the bids can go ? after investigation this vacuum cleaner was sold at auction on 1st May 21 at 9:30am by Arthur Johnson & Sons https://www.easyliveauction.com/cat...f/the-saturday-auctions-1st-may-2021-lot-863/
