My New Aerus Vacuums

I agree with you that if may very well be a very good product but that is a lot of money to spend on a product and we no longer have a store near. I understand that in some areas they have even more than one store but that is not the case in my area and we are getting into a machine that is more complicated.
I don't want to depend on a salesman coming to the house from some distance and trying to fix or repair a $1600.00 machine. I ran into the same thing with another door to door machine.. The machine is very good but the distributors have moved twice in one year and now no longer have any presence in my State. Now the customer is left to call one 800 number in Florida for any type of help. I just read my warranty and many do not cover mailing costs to and from the main location. After dealing with shipping costs of ebay I can tell you a customer could easily have $100.00 tied up in sending a machine in for repair and you would be without the machine for several weeks. Just a recipe for disaster and an unhappy customer.
There is a very high end electric range I have been looking at for several years with the same issues. It either gets 5 stars from people who buy it or 1 star and they had problems from the start with quaility control and circuit board problems.
It is just a hit or miss deal when you make the purchase.
 
News flash guys

Rainbow , Kirby , Filterqueen , Miracle Mate , Tristar ,Oreck all use parts made in china and from other parts of the world . Almost every product made in the USA use globally sourced parts . This is nothing new but I guess I need to let you all down so you can lose respect for all the other brands also . This is how our world operates today .

The Platinum is made in Slovania and uses parts made in Germany and Europe .

Global Economy

We live in a world that runs on a global economy, thats just the way it is. Companies that do not compete using the global market go bankrupt. Do I wish things were different, yes, but to expect a company not to outsource is just not accepting reality in todays marketplace. Of course I would like to see America bring back its production jobs, but, until there is a way to compete with cheap labor, etc., this is not going to happen. Almost every brand must use parts made elsewhere in order to compete. Sad but true.

I find it hard to believe that some people still do not know that . Even American cars are not made with American parts . Some people seem shocked and want to turn on products if they use globally sourced parts not realizing EVERYTHING made every where uses parts from all over the world .

If the vacuum manufacturers had to make every part here in the USA with all the labor costs especially with unions these vacuums would cost thousands over what they sell for . At least companies as Aerus still employs Americans to assemble the vacuums and to me that means a lot .

I sure agree with you guys. I just don't want to make an investment in a product of any type that is expensive and seems to have problems from out the gate.
I am sure they will make the needed corrections.
It is a global world today and things have changed.
I am in the process of selling off my vacs and the brands that FLEW out of my hands were my Dysons,Mieles and Oreck. I almost had to give away the newer Hoovers and Electrolux's. It has been an interesting thing to witness from the different non collector buyers their impressions of what is the "brands" to buy. Very different from even a few years ago. Of course I was looking at the machines from an older view of what brands were popular and high end from the 50's,60's and 70's.
I think you are correct Dan . I have not bought a new Kirby since the Legend II,so I know nothing of where they are made these days,
but almost every piece or attachment on my black Rainbow is stamped Made in USA. Of course they may use internal parts from all around the world too, I sure don't know.
 
I'm holding out.......

I want to an Aerus canister that has that Electrolux familiarity to it. This one looks great to me, but I'll give them some time to deal with these issues before I purchase. Some people believe that one shouldn't purchase a new model of car when it first comes out because manufacturers usually are still working the bugs out after the vehicle hits production. Perhaps it's the same way with vacuums, especially if the machine is technologically advanced to any degree.

As for the bags:
I don't think anyone makes a bag without flaws. I used to notice on my Lux canisters that a scant amount of dust would be present on the outside of the rubber collar of the so called self sealing bag. Every Miele I ever owned had dust present in the chamber also. I can live with this and don't see it worthy of hair-splitting or diminishing the quality of the bags.

None of us live in a sterile, cleanroom environment, and if you think you can possibly vacuum out every speck of dirt and dust in carpeting, it's just not true. There's always a residual amount of fine dust that remains in carpet. This is why D2D salesman have such an easy time showing a gullible housewife how much dirt her machine left behind when he promotes his own brand. This is also why any allergist will tell a patient with severe dust allergies to remove as much carpeting from their homes as possible.

I remember noticing a scant amount of dust in the bag chamber of my grandmother's 1205, my Oly, both Silverados, My Renny and my Epic. I think it's just one of those things. I can live with it.

The newest Rainbow that we both own have internal parts made in China , Mexico and other countries.

I guess I am a very rare collector as it seems that there are few that actually repair their own vacuums . I always take my machines apart when I buy them it intrigues me and I like to see how thing operate . I even repair my cars and many things throughout my home . I like being handy and it saves lots of money being able to repair things myself .

My Rainbow guy who I buy my Rainbows from isn`t really in the business anymore so my area has no Rainbow dealer anymore . He has to go to Philly to buy his machines/parts from a dealer there . He said the newest Rainbow`s are plagued with problems also so it seems that it`s not just Aerus .That is also one of the reasons why Kirby has delayed the 100th Anniversary Avalir all these years because they don`t want a repeat of the Generation series .

Good point on waiting for the small issues to be resolved with a new model ...that's why I don't rush on anything either. In terms of manufacturing, yes, lots of components and parts are from China, whether it be cars, vacuums, blenders, etc... however, if there is an issue with something, they should be able to resolve and correct it at the plant in China. I would think this goes full circle back to the main quality control manager in the US.

I think many people are making this bag problem out to be such a disaster and it is not . Even Rainbow spewed dust that's why they had to put a Hepa filter on it .

This Platinum has been in production in Europe for a few years now and it does very well . The only problem is the bag issue because Aerus chose to stick with the paper bags instead of the cloth type bags everyone seems to be jumping on and even those bags are made in China yes the Miele bags are made in China also OMG .

We are saying the same thing. Because I would not have the know how to take apart one of the newer machines using the advanced circuit boards I would be at a loss for doing any repairs myself.
You made my point perfectly. I would not feel comfortable buying ANY make expensivie door to door machine if there was not any established repair center and business in my area.
You are in a very different spot if you have the knowledge to take one of the newer machines apart and do your own repairs.
My Miele was a very good example. It did not work for my uses with the short power cord and electric hose and smallish attachments but it was a very powerful,quiet ,well made machine and they have at least 5 vac shops in the area that can repair and have parts right on hand.
I do not own the new Aerus yet, just reading what other owners are posting on this thread. They may come back to our area with a store again in the future,who knows.
We are all aware of the global economy these days. I do think my Miele did say it was made in Germany and the bags did say made in Germany.
I did ask the dealer when I made the purchase. I had no problems with the Miele during my ownership. I good vacuum,just not for my needs.

I have been repairing vacuums since I was 5 . I just remove screws and figure it out as I never had a forum or books to learn how to take vacuums apart . I guess just being naturally mechanical I don`t understand that if people own and collect items that some people have no idea how to work on those items .

Car collectors craft people ect. all know how to repair or make their crafts .
I am not saying anything to be mean I just know being a vacuum enthusiast I get into vacuum cleaners inside and out I like the look of the machine but I also want to find out what makes them tic .

Dan,old boy -I am impressed!
In the old days I could change out a simple motor on a Lux or Air-Way but that was about it. Way to go.
 
There are no problems right out if the gate. After a short time lux found out they needed a thicker bag, reacted and fixed the problem. What's the big deal. As was and always will be, one of the best machines on the market.

I feel the same way they have a problem and it gets fixed immediately they have one of the best customer service in the business and they truly care .

Seems like George likes to make it a big deal always saying how horrible their customer service and quality control is .I believe he needs to push and demand they fix his upright and that's going really far because this is one company I have dealt with for years and they have ALWAYS been so helpful they speak to you on the phone with a smile they are all very kind and NEVER dismiss anyone .

This is why they have been in business for 89 years if they operated as George says they do they would have been gone years ago .

Here we go

The lady over the phone at the customer service center in Dallas was friendly and courteous, however, the issue was forwarded back to the dealer- I got the runaround. People in other regions of the country, including you Dan, absolutely may experience top notch customer service with their local Aerus dealer or salesperson. Unfortunately, not everyone has an Aerus dealer nearby or in my case they seem to have closed four locations in a matter of five years on Long Island, NY. In my case, that is not good customer service. Small issue, yeah they will deal with it, if its a big issue, they'll look the other way- the dealer doesn't want to mess with the machine or loose money replacing it for free.
 
I believe this problem might work out to satisfy the ones who dislike the current bags. Home Care Industries is in big trouble. They could not secure capital to keep the Va. plant going. The leader also stepped down according to the following press report. It looks like Home Care Industries has suffered with the bagless trend. They may be about to go under. Fortunately there are other sources for Aerus and the other companies who use thier bags to turn to. I think Aerus needs to get with 3M and see what they can come up with. 3M has excellent filtration products. Read the story below from the aptly titled "pi**ed consumer."

I wouldn't say they have corrected the bag problem yet. I have a pack of the Chinese bags with the improved thick collar and supposedly improved filter material. They still leak dust in my machine and are coated with fine dust when removed for disposal.

At any rate, the pre-motor HEPA filter is doing its job keeping the dust in the bag chamber. Is the machine a failure because of this? No, absolutely not. I would appreciate a better bag to get more life out of the HEPA filter, but I am not disappointed in this machine in any way. It is a great design and pleasant to use, and it does not have the slightly fragile feel of my Miele Aquarius (you know, the tool cover), which is my second favorite bagged machine. I have had no early production glitches with it like the Renaissance did, but then again the design and fabrication is four years old in Europe.

We are all partial to certain brands and models, so in full disclosure I have always been an Electrolux man. I may be cutting this machine slack that others would not. There is another brand mentioned on this forum as being a great bagged machine that I wouldn't give two cents for, and I would be ready to point out all faults associated with it. But let me repeat, I do love the Platinum and forgive it its very few shortcomings. Aerus has a real winner that will improve with the years.
