My New Aerus Vacuums

I can see Dan's point about most users may not notice the leaking bags but won't they take notice if they are having to pay to replace the hepa filters more often?
Also, doesn't it seem like sort of a major issue to have bags leaking into the chamber and hepa filter? I would have thought they would have done more testing before bringing the product to market.
I would think people who are purchasing an expensive machine might be more likely to notice a problem than if they paid $39.00 for Big Box store vacuum.
I had a similar problem with a well known upright I bought about 4 years ago. It came with 2 bins. One bin was to be used in a bagless manner with a filter. The other bin was to be used with a Hepa throw-a-away bag. The problem was that the machine or bags were so poorly designed that the Hepa bags would NOT stay on the mount and it would allow the dirt to go right into the motor.
Thinking it was just MY machine,I returned it and got another from another store. SAME PROBLEM. I called the company and guess what-they had NEVER had any complaints! What a FLIP answer to give a cutomer. I was referred to 3 different authorized repair shops and each one could not fix the problem. The last one tried to get me to trade it in for another make machine. I just sold that vac and it was a $249.00 machine.
So I think Dan is correct that most people may not notice the problem until they have the replace filter light coming on. I don't think replacing the expensive hepa bags is good solution for most customers either.
This has been a very interesting thread and I guess we will have to stay tuned and see how it is resolved.

so it's the BAGS

and NOT the missing rubber seal?

If it's just a bag issue that's nothing major.

I was under the impression that it was a part of the actual machine that needed to be corrected.

And if dust does clog the hepa prematurely, that can shorten the life of the machine since average people would keep using it since it's only supposed to be changed once per year.

Upright

Dan,

I would love to sell you a new upright when they become avail. I hope the commercial upright is redesigned as well. I lost a major deal with a French company to Windsor to take over their entire vacuum business in North America because it did not have OBT. You should think about the Guardian Platinum air purifier. Less dust in the house and mine has been running 24/7 for 13 years. Love the German EBM motors.

As far as that little incident in Bass River TWP., The attorney I hired in Philly Saul Sagan got the ticket filed and I had a great time with the Asian gal I was playing with at the time. Call Saul for your traffic issues.

I am trying to get my hands on some of the cloth bags and some other items. I will let you guys know. My friend is from Costa Rica and fluent spanish. I don't speak enough to "get lucky" in Miami so she will broker the deal.

Everyone who

have received the bags say its fixed we shall see once I get mine I am very curious . I really hope that was the problem because thats an easy fix and makes sense because in Europe they use the cloth type bags in the machine . Seems like they made bags and cardboard collar thicker because this macine is super powerful .

I have not had any dealing with Aerus but I know Electrolux was very good about making sure the customer was happy with their machines not just for the waranty but as long as you owned the product.
Way back when I worked for them, the goal was for the customer to be a "lifetime" Electrolux user. We had a lot of very loyal Electrolux users.

Still Leaking Dirt

Dan,

My filter is getting cruddy again after two uses so I still have the problem. My cardboard is bent and there is a huge dust stain on the bottom of the bag that matches the filter. An easy way to test this is you guys using some of the new super thick Miele bags in your collection. Stuff the Aerus bag inside the Miele bag and run it in your machine. There should be dirt on one side and none on the filter side. My money says this corrects the issue for whom ever tries it.

This is the first machine I have used bags other than Lux Iota. Those spun-woven polypropelene (sp?) are the only vacuum bags I have ever used that do not leak. I used them exclusively in my original Guardians. They filter to .1 micron.

You know, we need to keep this in perspective. There is some dust leakage through the bags, but the bag cage doesn't look like a Dyson dust bin. I agree with cc that the HEPA premotor filter will keep the motor perfectly clean, and this is overall a small issue on a great machine. I'm sure Aerus will have a solution forthcoming, but I'm happy with it the way it is designed now.

Could the dirt be leaking from the bag opening & bag tube because the bag tube gasket is missing? Why did Aerus/Lux do away with the bag tube gasket?

That's not good I hope they find the problem maybe they need to ask lux international what they use for the bag collar . It looks to me like it's plastic not cardboard maybe that's the fix . I hope I receive my bags soon so I can see what's going on with it . I am not interested in the cloth type bags because their other bags have never leaked in any of my Aerus/Electrolux .
Rob is correct Aerus does and will stand by their products .

Erik, I think it is possable for some leakage to occur because of no gasket around the collar, but so far to me it looks more like the bags.. After I got my new batch of bags I see very very little leakage. I am not concerned cause I know aerus lux will always stand behind their products as they always have.

My New Aeus Vacuums

Dan,
I stand corrected. I was talking to John and after going into the Aerus web site I read the owners instuctions. I thought the hepa filter HAD to be replaced every 6 months. When I read the instructions it says the light will come on WHEN it needs replacement. I would assume when they get the bag problem corrected that HEPA filter may last a long time.
The instuctions on my Rainbow tell me to check the Hepa filter every 2 years and replace every 5 years. I have had my Rainbow almost 2 years now and it has had a LOT of use. My Hepa filter is just as clean as new. I would assume the Aerus Lux will be the same. The life of the hepa filter will depend on the amount of use and care given to change the bag when needed.

The pre hepa filter will take the brunt of any leaking dirt and cause the life to be shortened . This will be indicated by the light on the indicator to come on. The second or after filter was spotless on my machine when the original bags started leaking. The pre filter stopped all the leaking dirt. The after filter according to aerus Electrolux will be good for five years.

aerus reply

Just noticed an email from Aerus customer service that had gone to my spam folder. The lady suggests that I vacuum on the auto mode, that way the machine will determine the suction needed for the surface I am cleaning. It will not be on full strength for extended periods, and this will help with the bag problem. ( I had answered her question of what speed I have been using. I vacuum with the suction on its highest setting.) She seems to indicate that that is not the best way, that this vac was made to use it's intelligent feature - auto - to vacuum most of the time, and only manually adjust to full suction power when needed. Now, I will admit, that this vacuum has an enormous amount of suction power, but I should be able to use it as long as I want. I don't think she was saying this was a solution to anything, just perhaps a try and see until the leakage situation is solved permanently. Guess I'll give it a try. Will let y'all know if I still get excellent performance, and if I still notice the dust leakage ( but I have not seen dust since I have been using new bags, But haven't been through more than one yet). All in all, I am still very happy with my purchase and consider the platinum the "best" vacuum in my very humble collection, and very humble opinion.

As much suction as it has, medium speed would probably do a good job. It directly contradicts what they say in thier video, however. They say plainly to use high speed for carpet vacuuming and floors in general. You should be able to use highest setting without worrying. Hope they find a solution.
