VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Amazingly clean condition.

Also brought in the RCA Victor VICTROLA Twin Speaker Mono Model K-873 S.N. 3601 made in Montreal 4-speed record player with retracting lift n twist 45 adapter. Cleaned up the two needles and it does play well.

The Brown and Beige tweed leatherette is a perfect colour match for the record case stuffed with 45s. 1/4 of the 50 records are Salvation Army Band, another 1/4 of children's stories spoken aloud with musical accompaniment, another 1/4 of crooners such as Andy Williams, Perry Como, Vic Damone and the rest are Beach Boys, Herman's Hermits and the like era.

Black and Decker Valet Restoration...

Dave,

I have the camera in the coat pocket ready to go to work tomorrow. I literally soaked the wands most of the day in a bath of Coke-Cola, and using a very fine steel wool, wa able to remove 98% of the rust on the wands. What is left, is wither too deep to remove properly, or will have to be removed by a buffing machine, of which I do not have one.

The motors were cleaned, and lubricated with zoom oil, and both run fine now, as they were good at first, but a little dry, and just covered in schmutz. When I dissassembled the canister portion, I found a few more (abandoned) honeycombs, so thankfully I wasn't stung stupid by a bees nest. Of course it was still just a bit cold for those things to be alive quite yet.

I had a hose that works perfectly, the one that was with it I belive was the original one, but I have no outer hose cords that I could use, nor straps to hold it on. Looking at the General Electric one that preceded it, I can't imagine that anyone (would not) want to have a regular electric hose anyway.

The Powernozzle is strangely VERY FilterQueen'esque; similar but not fully like a model 48 powerhead. The belt was dryrotted into several billion little rubber chunks that literally fell out, or had to be vacuumed out. The sleeve bearings were rusted, and had to be soaked in the Coke-Cola solution, then brushed with a wire toothbrush, as well as the shafts that protrude out of the brushroller.. Then I coated them in Zoom oil, and later still, wiped that off, and reassembled it with a new Filter Queen Belt. It took off like gangbusters, and within a few minutes sounded just like it should...Humming along with a beat in it's pulse...

The outsides of all the machine were scrubbed and wahed down with copious amounts of simple green, a fine steel wool, and plenty of paper towel. After doing all that I saturated everyhting with VacPolish, and buffed everythign to the shine it was going to take no matter what I did.

All in all, I'm pretty crafty, and have had to do lots of "engineering" to many machines before. I have yet to find tools that look "right"; buit that's all in the future. I got it cleaned up, looking good and the best part...working!!!

Look for photo's tomorrow probably around later evening!!!

What a wonderful mini-meet! Thanks Dave and Chad for the excellent pictures and commentary. You packed 12 hours of fun and vacuums into a 6 hour time span! Catalogue picture of the CGE "canned ham" canister is intriguing. All of the thrift items were certainly icing on the cake too. The RCA Victor portable is a really solid value too.

Under the hood - before.

This must have spent it's last days cleaning up a barn and then sitting in a corner. But the belt is good and the bottom plate rust-free. Motor and brushroll spin freely. Yippee. I'll just replace that lamp and fire it up...

That of course is the curious and ever watchful Felix!

Bumper before Magic Erasing...lots of baseboard paint and the hood must have been rammed repeatedly under something - the aluminum inlay for the pile control was pretty chewed up but I managed to press it back flat and trim the shards off.

It's an Upright - says so on the bag. LOL

New paper bag, up and running. Took a turn around the hallway.

Sounds as soothing as a Hoover but in it';s own musical way. This one will eventually get a hood & base paint job because it is otherwise so nice. Even the replacement bag looks good with it's Eureka Racing Stripe. Works for me. great headlight pattern.

This cost all of $5 at the Jungtique Barn.

Forgot to mention:

Eureka Model E2070-A, SN 71610, Rugulator Two Speed, made by The Onward Mfg Co Ltd, Kitchener Ontario Canada.

The date code cast in the base reads 1/31/78. Thanks for pointing this out, Chad. Dave

Dave,

Looks wonderful dear friend. However I cannot take the credit for the dating of the Eureka. That honor goes to our own (Swingette) or David C. who graciously supplied the knowledge that I did not have before a few days ago, on how to do such things.

So a thank you to David goes out!!!

I posted a new link with the resto pics of the Black and Decker Valet, (nee' Regina, General Electric, Baycrest and others), with one large pic so you can get the gist on how far the old gal I raced for so eloquently last Sunday has come along.

Great Vac Days...!!!

Looks like a grand day was had by all, and with all those special finds, WOW...!!!!

Nowthen, "Chicken in the Rough" my word Pete you know how to keep em keen...Lol, finger lickin good looks like to me!!!

Very interesting results there guys, was the Eureka 60 - 97 the result for the BrandyWine canister???

Was the Eureka 60 - 97 the result for the BrandyWine caniste

Mike,

I believe so. Dave was this correct? Anyway, all the tests were done on hi-speed, and it was the difference between the pull of suction at "Drapes" on one side of the six suction selector buttons, and "Carpets" at the other end. Hence the readings 60-97. For whatever reason, maybe just we did not think of it...lol....we never tested the suction reading between the buttons on lo-speed.

Chad

The Chicken in the rough was actually VERY good. It was NOTHING like KFC or Churches, which end up giving the end user a terrible time in the loo afterwards.

It's too bad that they no longer have as as many franchises as they used to. I definitely would be a repeat customer if that was the case...

Fabulous!

Thanks for the pictures, everyone... Looks like a good time was had by all!! Chad, that B/D vacuum you found is indeed fabulous, congrats on finding a dream machine!

Dave, I think the yellow floor washer came before the blue one. The yellow one had the dial on the trigger to help dictate how much water was dispensed when you squeeze it... really the only thing they changed about it (did away with it) when they changed the color from yellow to blue. I think somewhere I have a pamphlet from the mid 60's showing the blue one in the lineup.

But that floor washer is a favorite machine of mine. It's easier to use (faster) than the Floor A Matic.. and does a great job!

WOW!!

Looks like you all had lots of fun vacuuming and visiting and latched onto some good finds at the Junque Emporium! And as Fred said, thanks for sharing the pics--it's the next best thing to being there. As Norm said, we had a mini-meet of our own about a week before and am hoping to get the roll finished so I can post pics of our meet.
Happy Vacuuming,
Jeff

I was under the impression...

based on serial numbers.

You are so right, Fred. All I had to do was look at the Hoover News Introduction page on display at the Hoover Historical and there it is in glorious yellow with black handle trim.

So what's with the serial numbers being low on the blue ones?

4-9-2009-07-07-42--aeoliandave.jpg

Ah, the serial number conundrum...explained.

The yellow is Model 3500 and the blue is Model 3510.

The yellow motor housing was molded from a slightly paler yellow plastic of a different composition. The tank & nozzle are of a tougher durable Cycolac type that perfectly matches the paint on the metal 'landing gear' trundle. while the motor is encased in a softer vinyl-ized plastic that mars easier. Every yellow one I've seen has this subtle two tone look - the blue seems to have corrected this visually to a greater extent tho under bright light it too has a slightly lighter motor.

About a year ago there was a Floor Washer Owners manual on Ebay but the winner could afford to want it more than I. :-(

Any scanned material on the Hoover Floor Washer would be greatly appreciated, especially the Manual.
