The Sarnia Mini-Meet from my viewpoint...

If any of you want a play by play of the meet we just had, and what some of you wished you could come to.. I'll take a few minutes and type out my tome for you to read . If you dont wish to go thru this part you can look at my slideshow below. Their in order fairly well, and you can kinda put them together with all the other pics, to get what was going on when...

So without further ado...

I picked up Rusty Andres around 10ish, and with a few pit stops made it to Petes house just around noon.

We all got introductions out of the way, and talked for a bit, and relaxed after our drives, and got caught up. We looked over the machines that were already inside Pete and Daves things, and after while it was suggested by Pete that we all go over to Petrolia Ont, and go to the Emporium of Junque ( I honestly cannot remember the name)...LOL It was just Dave, Myself and Rusty who went, as Pete goes quite a bit. It's only about a solid 15 to 20 minute ride. All us gents were prattlin away on this and that taking about different things. , and we ended up needing the room to take all the sutff that we ended up getting, so my gosh there would have been no room for Pete even if he had gone...EEEEK!

(SIDEBAR)-

To explain the Black and Decker, and my reaction. I have for almost my whole life ( since I was six and an aunt threw one away in front of me bacause she DID NOT want me to have it); have pined for a Regina canister vac. I thankfully was given one by our own Marty Rocha The one that pegged 90 in the testing on Daves meter (more on that later). I was able to find the correct wand for it, out the parts bins at work, and just recently found what could very well be the exact hose that it initially came with.

Anywhoo...After being inside the place like Dave already told everyone, he suggested that we go around back as they had a whol OTHER section with more stuff. Imagine kind of an outdoor flea-market type of deal. The pics Dave took show what I mean. And from the minute after we drove thru the back gate I got a glimpse at something very rare and VERY wanted. I spotted the Black and Decker version with a PowerNozzle..which was (the very last version produced) of the Regina tank. I think my exact words as we scraped to a halt in the middle of the yard were "Holy ****" Before I even threw the thing in Park, I had the door open ready to sprint for it, and as Dave and Rusty say ( I cannot possibly remeber bacause In my mind I was in nirvana) As I actually ran over to it I sounded like Noxema Jackson from Too Wong Foo, when she found the old 60's clothing in the general store. Thanks my dear friends. This will live with me in infamy...LMAO Yeah I found that for the most part it was 99% complete, minus tools (big deal), and I held onto it for dear life I believe I uttered LOUDLY "IT'S MINE"!!!. Every few minutes I let out a little joyfulness that I actually now will have TWO not one Regina type machines. How much more could a collector ask for... But I digress..

We drove back to Petes after a leisurely drive around Petrolia which is VERY rich in oil history in those parts, and we checked out their VINTAGE train station, and combination Opera House, and Town Hall as we all found we liked trains, and old buildings LOL...finally came back to Petes house. After the guys telling Pete on my reaction to my find, we all unloaded the car of our prizes, and I of course brought out my vac crew that I brought along to play with in the cavernous Maw of Marquis (my trunk). We stood around outside while some of us had a smoky treat , and talked more, and looking over carefully our things we just got.. Dave got a geat record player, plenty of 45 and some vintage home movies that I believe were of a trip to France by a family in 1965?

After bringing stuff inside we all started playing with and looking over all the sutff we had to use, and as you can see...We all either had a favorite, or were just happy to do what we like best...playing with old vacuums. After awhile Pete got busy and made us a fantastic chicken dinner complete with biscuits and fries...YUMM YUMM.. Oh wait, I forgot he had this portion ordered in...LMAO!!!Thank you very much for the supper Pete. He is everyone, a consumate good host. We sat around for while talking about this and that, things that we normally really cannot talk about becasue either our significant others, or friends we see on a daily basis, think is goofy or redundant. It's so great to have those happy times with great people..That are in many ways like minded!!

After the feast was over, we all went back to playing with vacuums and Dave brought out his trusty Vacu-Meter. Each canister was tested for suction strength, and I believe that all of us, including myself were VERY suprised that the Regina Cyclonic can I brought pulled a straight 90 at full power on the suction control panel. Of course everythng was overshadowed by Daves NEW'ish Royal Pony. My mom has one similar, and she loves it more than any vac she's ever had. And becasue of me ...that's been plenty.

Soon enough we all realized that it was nearing 6 pm, and Dave Rusty and Myself had a long ridehome to contend with. Never seems like there is EVER enough time to talk and play...:-( And Pete, and his very understanding partner I'm sure was wanting thier living room back... So we all loaded up with our things, and said our goodbyes...or so long's if you wish.

We got a good group photo as you saw, and before we all took off for our destinations, we all discussed the possibility of a Mini-Meet here in Ann Arbor Michigan at Rusty house, that I would help him host sometime late summer or early fall. This may be a very real possibility so if your interested I will keep those who may want to come posted. We also discussed the idea of going back to Pete's house too.

I have to say that we had such a great time, and we all enjoyed our little this and that's we found to have a really great and relaxing Sunday. Thanks again to Pete who furnished us with a great lunch/supper and his home, Dave for bringing his very cool canisters, and vacumeter, and of course Rusty for making the trip there and back very pleasant and happy...

Your all great parts to why our hobby is so fun!!

Chad

Ann Arbor Michigan

P.S. and for those who were not able to come, just rememebr that there will be a next time, and hopefully we can do it where there are several weeks ahead for you to make the nescesary arrangements to come If you wish to. If Rusty and I agree to have one, we will try and give at least a months notice as to time, place and accomodations if you need to have some made or help in making them...

OMG

Chad... I thought the vac a friend had that I wanted was a Regina It looked just like the one in your previous post,I had commented on it, now Im thinking it was a B&D hmm its a mystery Ill never figure out. But it did look just like you Regina. Did B&D have an orange one wuth the Dial-a-Pile also? I know it was definately not a Ge. Im still 98% sure it was a Regina because I remember thinking at that age hmm I thought they only made E-brooms.
Kenny.

Did B&D have an orange one wuth the Dial-a-Pile also?

Well Kenny, I'm really NOT sure...LOL

I know that Regina put out their canisters in many bright vivid 1970's colors throughout their run here in the states. You May remember for an earlier post that Regina dropped them in the USA, after around a seven year run or so 1970-1977. Those dates are in MY mind, so they may vary, or be not "technically correct". Regardless, by 1978, there wasn't a thing written on them, nor were they available from any catalog that I have anyway, and that's all but the Ardans Showroom catalogs from out east.

That said, unless my learning capabilities are quite wrong, I believe that along the same time frames that Regina was building them for the US, a similar Canadian equivalent was being produced as well by I believe Switson Industries?

Of course over the course of the next years that I am uncertain of at least until 1981 as the catalog the I also have now attests to, they were sold under the CGE or Canadian General Electric, I believe it was badged Baycrest for Hudson Bay Dept Stores one of which I believe Doug Smith has; and Black and Decker who kinda shuffled their way into the home vacuum market in the mid 1980's sometime ( at least here in the US), by using off the shelf technology.

This on e that I just found was the very last of this designs run. I could be wrong, and I'll wait until any Canadian contemporary can tell me "if they know"; when this body style I guess was no longer made?

You most likely know of a Regina. They were sold here, whereas The GE, Baycrest, Black and Decker and whatever other badges I've missed were to my knowledge, not!

Great pics Chad
You know we never even got round to seeing Dave latex a hose either.
Fun stuff always flies by and chores drag on for eternity

Great pics looks like you all had a great time, Chad I really love your Brandy wine Eurekas, and also love the Premier, grandma Rose had a one like it. Maybe next time you all have a mini-meet I will be able to go, it is like a 6-7 hour ride. Also your Grand Marqius looks great Chad.
Dave the luxes look great and I love the RCA Victor record Player.

I have a question for you guys, What is "Chicken In The Rough"
I am assuming that it is a branded pressure fried chicken product.
Possibly similar to Broaster brand Broasted Chicken, which i am familiar with since I served it for 4 years at a resturant that was one of the first to have Broaster products 50 years ago. Broaster is a process, chicken is soaked in Chickite marinade over night, drained and breaded lightly in Slo-Bro chicken flour and let to sit until it turns sticky and then pressure fried in a Broaster for 11 minutes thus producing a delicious pressure-fried chicken.

Well according their website Chicken in the Rough began back in the 30's and at one time was a very large concern wit hundreds of franchises long before Mcdonalds and KFC etc.. but if you click on locations, there's only 3,, one in Sarnia here and two in Michigan LOL

I couldn't finish my roughneck chicken dinner and had a delicious nuked chicken breast half and fries for lunch today. lip smackin' good!

Good thing we all drove to our homes Sunday night. The snow turned into a storm overnight and here it never stopped all day. I understand from the evening news that Sarnia was worst hit.

More candid meet shots: Pete pilots the sunny yellow SINGER. Note continued use of original Loewy designed handle casting, hollow struts and placement of cordwinder. However, the cord now exits from the side rather than up inside one handle strut to the handle exit.

Attractively coloured box of Canadian Hoover Tool Set model 1031 (?). The tools and hose are a pale beige-y brown and the aluminum bits have that golden anodized coating, evidently never used.

Bumpycake, and current thoughts....

Oh cool.... glad to see the stats from the suction tests... My Regina still shocked me...

Oh just wait until you all see that Black And Decker Valet now.. I spent half of the day at work, trying to erase 5+ years of hard abuse and forgotten usefulness. The wands were saved, along with the hose end, a new white electric hose was secured, and BOTH the motors work...

Man Im lucky....:-)

Chad

Gee Whizz, Chad! Amazing considering how many YEARS the Black & Decker sat in that same spot fully exposed to the extremes of nature. Your Twingle Talent was in overdrive on Sunday. Saved the rust coated wands? This I gotta see...

With the constant falling wet snow the car is still mostly fully packed. I just don't want to get water spots on some of the stuff and there's the risk of slipping on the icy slushy sidewalk and stairs.

I did bring in this very cute 'rightsized' Fuller Brush Electrostatic Carpet Sweeper. It may look like a toy but it is all metal construction and fully featured just like the big ones with additional whisk brushes at the four corners.
