Have any of you attempted to make a mini 13" wide nozzle for your Classic Omega 1CB, Classic III 2CB or Tradition 3CB? On these three models, the safety switch is in a different spot than on the Classic 1CR and all Kirby models before that. I wonder how hard it would be to get the 13" nozzle to jibe with the Classic Omega safety switch?

After having cleared that hurdle, I also wonder if you attempted to make a custom 13" wide bumper just by cutting a few inches from the standard 16" wide bumper?

The belt lifter individual parts will fit into the 13" 500/Sanitronic nozzle, too (560 onward).

Well, I can't get the Sani VII nozzle to work, but ...

I thought crossed my pea brain.  If one had a Classic 1-CR and obtained a DS 50 or DS 80 rug nozzle, that would work like a champ, since all three of those machines used the same speed/safety switch.  Have you tried that Ben?

No, it won't :-(

The Omega had the new style switch with the lever, and the DS50/80/Classic had the two button switch.  I know the DS50/80 nozzle will wok on the Classic though since they all shared the same safety switch.

The Classic has a raised piece of aluminum surrounding the fan case opening. Look at the back of the Classic nozzle, it's opening is cut out to allow for that raised ring to enter the nozzle opening. There's no cut out on the Dual 50/80 nozzle, so it won't just 'interchange'. You can always remove the safety switch and make an Omega (for example) run on LO speed - and add a small head nozzle to it with no problems.

What Kirby Could Have Done for Us...

As shown in the drawing. They could have made a 13-in. nozzle casting with the attaching lugs in all positions to accept usage on all safety switch versions, just like they did with the universal hose coupler post-1981 for models 516 to Tradition.

This scan is a guide to identifying which nozzle goes to which group of Kirbys, from the model 516 to the Legend II. And below is the sketch I made about what Kirby could have done for us on the 13" nozzle casting, which would fit every Kirby model from the 516 to the Legend II.
