the hose cord is ivory to match the hose. I too have only seen teal and ivory... I have a few of each, but this is the only hose that doesn't leak like a sieve to use them with, new rubber hoses are slightly too large in diameter for the straps.

I need, yeah like a hole in my head, a few more metal bodied models to have a representative of each one...but I want one in every color
It's become an obsession. I may start wanting one from every year... better start building a second story on the house for a display room....

Today as I was out and about I stopped by an out of the way thrift shop behind the Senior Center in a neighboring town and picked up a Lux Golden J for $1.99. Tag said didn't run, missing parts. Took it home took it apart to clean it up and see what it needed, and found that the only thing wrong with it was someone had worked on it and not connected one of the leads from the motor to the wiring block. Put it back together and it purrs like new. I love it when it's easy to fix.
Thanks for the info, Tom. I figured it was ivory, but just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.
Regarding the wider diameter of the newer hoses, have you thought about using cable ties? I actually saw a Model L in a thrift store not too long ago that had that done, and while it wasn't original; it did the job and looked well. The owner had trimmed off the excess, so it was very neat in appearance.
I have a rubber hose and plan on doing that when I get a cord.

I hadn't thought of wire ties... and I have hundreds of them around. Thanks for the idea. I think I even have a cord with damaged straps that I could use and not feel that I'd diminished it some how. I may just have to try it out over the weekend. Might even use velcro ties... easy on and off. Now my brain is running at full speed. Good thing everything local is closed or I'd be likely to start tonight

Great idea about the velcro ties--versatile's always better than fixed.
Missed your reply about the Golden J--wow and congrats! That generation--as a rule--hardly ever threw things away even if they didn't work--either they could find another use for them such as for parts or they could find someone like you who knew how to repair them. Good job. Post a photo of it sometime, and/or a Youtube vid.

Do you have all the attachments--including the white hose with trios of teal/gold/teal tracers? If not Jimmy Martin (rugsucker) may have them--I know he had one or two of the hoses a couple weeks ago.
Also, have you thought about collecting sets of Electrolux machines like me? This is what I consider a set:
(1961-1988: aqua Model G era to Model 1521/Marquise era)--not sure if Model G was launched in October 1960 or April 1961. The 50th anniversary plate states 1961, but I have also seen 1960 in other places).
1. standard cleaner (e. g. Model 1205 J/Golden J w/PN-2 w/50th Jubilee decal and ivory attachments)
2. budget cleaner (e. g. gold Model L w/PN-2 and ivory attachments)
3. turbo rug washer/floor polisher (gold and ivory) (1962 and on)

I love finding things that look hopeless and making them useful again. Now I just need to learn to let some of them go to new homes instead of keeping them all.

I have a sick feeling that I'm going to end up collecting every Electrolux canister model! Ha ha! I have 2 1205's; the one my husband bought me because that's what my mom had/I grew up with and the other one is my mom's, she just passed away in September. My husband and I are going to restore my mom's; it's in really bad shape, but thank goodness my husband restores antique cars for a living and knows how to fix stuff! Also, he's an expert metal fabricator so that works out great for me! Besides the 2 1205's, I have a model XXX and a model LX. I'm in the process of finishing up 2 deals on here for a model G and an Olympia One. For now, I just want the canisters because that's all I have the room for! Once we get our house more in order I'll probably start collecting the attachments. -Michelle

I know that feeling... I have 2 XXX's, an LX, Automatic E, Tan G, Golden J, both Olympia models, a Silverado, Marquise and UltraLux metal canisters, a Hi-Tech 2100 and the first Aerus Legacy plastic canisters, an Epic 2500 and Lux Guardian uprights... plus a Kirby D50 and Sentria II, a Hoover constellation and Windtunnel Platinum canister and 2 Dysons.... the only one bought new is my Dyson DC07, the rest are all thrifted or curbside finds ( I love trash day). And unlike you, I have most of the attachments and hoses too. I even keep leaky hoses in rough shape that I really should just let go.

Let's see, besides my 4 Lux canisters I have 2 Kirbys: a DS50 and Heritage II, a Hoover Convertible, a Sears Kenmore Twin Fans, 2 Dirt Devil hand vacs, a Hoover brush vac, a 1940's Westinghouse hand vac, and a newer Dirt Devil upright that I'm not happy with. The 2 Kirbys I got on Ebay for local pick up. I'm in the process of buying all of the Kirby parts that I need to get them both up and running. The Hoover Convertible I listed on here in a thread and from what people have told me is that the motor head part are from the 80's (It's a darker blue and white) and the bag on it is from the 70's (it's a medium blue holey fabric with a cute little design on it). I got "Hoovie" from my husband's boss. He knew I collected vacuums and said I could have it! I just got my Twin Fans at a garage sale maybe a month ago for $1.00! All it's missing is the front light lens and it works flawlessly! I don't know anything about Twin Fans, it's white and brown with a brown/white flower bag. I got one of my hand held Dirt Devils from my husband, he bought it new in 1990 I think he said. He cleaned him up for me and now I can use it! I got the other Dirt Devil from a garage sale for $15.00! It's in good shape! It's newer than my husband's. His just has the red cloth bag and mine has a disposable bag inside of the outer red bag. I just have to find out what kind of disposable bags I have to get for him. I got my Hoover Brush Vac from a garage sale for $2.00! I actually got him the same time I got my Dirt Devil hand vac, I was garage saleing that day! Believe it or not, my little "Hoove" is one of my favorite vacuums! I use him everyday for vacuuming off the bed and furniture. He's pretty neat and I love the fact that he looks like my old school Nintendo! Ha Ha! My husband bought me my 1940's Westinghouse hand vac off of Etsy. He was the cutest little thing I have ever seen and I had to have it! My husband and I cleaned him up, just have to gently clean his cloth bag. Also, I got an Electrolux Beautifier B-8 Shampooer at a garage sale for $5.00 and it comes with every attachment including a floor buffer for a model XXX! I put it on my 1205 and tried it out, it's the coolest little gadget ever! For attachments, I only have a complete set for my 1205 that my husband bought for me. I do have 3 braided hoses from my 1205, XXX, and LX. I don't think the 2 have good suction, I know my 1205 doesn't, that's why I bought her a new vinyl hose. I do have some wands and floor tools for the XXX and LX, but not a complete set for either. I'll be getting more vacuums and attachments regardless of space because I know myself! Ha Ha! -Michelle
