That would actually..

Be very cool to have! i would love to have one. but i must admit that as stated already that has to add so much morre weight to a machine that already weighs upwards of 30 pounds! LOL

Lol. That thing is BIG!

Would be awesome to have though.

I bet it does house a very long cord. A shorter cord for the portable one.

How about that G5 serial number 1 he has????

I have never cared much for cord winders, but that one is too big and too ugly. How many feet of cord does it contain? I'd be concerned about the stress that it would put on the 'Handle Pivot' spring.

The guy who listed those cord winders

was a former engineer who worked for Kirby . I purchased many vacuums from him years ago on eBay . They were all brand new models that Kirby would buy to test research maybe copy different things while designing the newer models which I am sure is the new Avalir that will be out hopefully by the 100th Anniversary . The cord winder will be apart of the new machine as every survey Kirby had done with former customers many had said they would prefer a cord winder. That is why he has them for sale because he was they one who engineered them as protypes to get to the design of the one that will be on Kirby`s redesigned model. They are a cool and unique item to own . He refuses to talk about the newest Kirby that will arrive whenever . He is very good with secrets even though he no longer works for them.

Looks like that cordwinder is clunky, awkward, and heavy.DO NOT WANT A CORDWINDER on my Kirby.the manual cordwind hooks are fine-I just don't like cordwinders on upright vacuums-they are fine on canisters-esp if they are properly designed and the cord is long-say 20ft or over.

Right on, Dan!

It's a fascinating idea and of course, engineers go through many ideas mentally pie-in-the-sky, on paper and prototype some. Sure, they could have had Electrolux or Royal run something up for them in the nature of an add-on but with an in-house R&D department why not something original and patentable?

Just look at Jack's DYSON memorabilia - prototypes start out clunky until they are refined and 'smaller-ized' for production.

The tall handle cylinder probably seemed like a great idea on paper, keeping the cord flat, tangle-free and spiral wound. It may even have an integrated cord guide that travels up and down the cylinder to keep the windings even, like Singer's reciprocating shuttle bobbin winder that guided the thread evenly side to side through precision worm gearing.

Who wouldn't want to be the caretaker of such a one-of-a-kind piece of history?

Dave

I do that too...

draw ideas that come to me in an 'AHA' moment. Never happens when I have paper with me and am prepared. Something about the unexpectedness of the inspiration triggers it. Some of my best design work of all kinds have started with a sketch on a napkin in a restaurant, a real restaurant. Funnily enough, it has never happened in a fast food joint, or a cafeteria.
