I figured I would give a one month update on my D4, after someone of my initial criticisms. I will start with my lasting or new criticisms: Power cord should be grey (all of the accents are grey, the black is out of place), one touch cord rewind would be nice for the long cord, cord reel is a bit sluggish ( might become better over time), and a headlight would be nice on the et1. I think the wand that Miele uses is perfect, the Sebo wand is hard to grab due to the plastic sheath over the wires. I also wish they had some type of rubber or plastic on the end of the wand. Lastly, the canister will not go over its cord very easily, the way the wheels are designed. These are minor complaints, but they are valid on a flagship product.

I have enjoyed using the D4, it’s probably the best canister I’ve used. The et1 is very nimble, and it cleans well. The bag is absolutely huge, and I have not noticed any leaking. I like how easy the bag is to install, no dealing with a bag dock. I rarely run out of cord with this canister! The swivel hose makes a big difference in its ease of use. The canister is very stable, it never tips, it’s an absolute tank. The handle control is much more intuitive than Miele, I always found that I had to look at the Miele handle to make a selection. I am still thinking about getting the Sebo made parquet brush a maybe a rug nozzle. The Sebo extension hose brings a canister to another level, I can dust and clean anything without the main handle. I love the extension hose for stairs, I don’t have to bring the canister on the stairs. The tapered hose has not bothered me.

The slow rewind will save the cord in the long run. A lot of owners just press the rewind button and let her rip. Cords get warm with use and that softens the outer vinyl cover. If the cord rewinds fast the plug slams into the back of the vacuum and stretches the vinyl ever so slightly. Soon enough it rips, exposing the wires inside. Old Kenmores had really strong cord winders and were infamous for tearing plugs off the ends of their cords if the owner didn't slow the rewind down the last few centimeters. A slower rewind protects the cord and plug if the owner is negligent, or using one of those auto rewind things. Recent Kenmore canisters have slowed their cord winders for just this reason.

Spot on review, echoes my experiences. Biggest gripe is the rollers not rolling over the cord; although on my carpets it does, on hard floors it’s a pain.

Yep, it’s a tank on carpets, it’ll run the cord right over. On hard floors I either have to avoid moving the canister where it would go over the cord, or you have to tip the corners and lift the canister over the cord. I really like how easily it goes over transitions!

I find, as a canister person, that you should pull the hose up a wee bit which lifts the front castors over the cable. Generally that does the trick, though it may not. Good luck.
That's how I do it too, but I find that every canister vac I have that has four swiveling casters without exception is a royal PITA to roll over the cord. Even when I get the front wheels over the back wheels hook the cord and drag it along until something pulls the cord tight enough to let the rear wheels roll over it, or I bend down and help it. The easiest rolling canister vacs I have are Tristars and their copies from Schoettler ( Airstorm and Patriot ), Miracle Mate and Vortech, the Metrovac Evolution, pretty much any European or American Electrolux canister vac and modern Kenmore and Panasonic models with their large rear wheels that roll easily over anything.
