As you may comprehend from the title, I've been having problems regarding my Hoover PurePower PU2012/1, which I ONLY bought six weeks ago.

Right, let's get down to the nitty gritty, although if you use a PurePower you might not get to the nitty gritty.

I have only been using this lightly, and have been trying to keep it in as best condition as I can. I was using it this afternoon, only for around 10 minutes, and I noticed it wasn't picking up all the dirt, and even if it picked up the dirt it spurted - is that a real word? - the dirt back on the carpet. I stopped it, checked the bag - 1/4 full - and also checked for blockages, which there were none, so I continued. Around 5 minutes later, I noticed the same thing happening, but then it suddenly sprayed some dust through the grill on the front and also through the hose and brushroll, even though the bag had no tears. I tried again at vacuuming, and whilst I was at it - you will notice the title here - I started smelling something un-normal, and noticed smoke coming through the brushroll - which I assumed was the belt - but as soon I had noticed that smoke came through the 'Carpet Care Control' and through the grill, which became even more apparent once I unplugged it and opened the bag door, to which I was greeted by more smoke and an electrical smell. I promptly unplugged it and took it outside.

So, I am not happy - well would you be if it was only 6 weeks old? - and I am taking it back hopefully at the weekend to Argos, hoping for a refund. I hadn't yet registered the warranty - I have been busy recently, I have had exam's - and I hope to get a refund.

I shall be saving an extra £100 or so to invest in a Sebo X1.1 or a Sebo X4, so hopefully I will have a much better experience with the Sebo.

Frankly I don't think it's worth holding the Hoover name on it at all.

Thank you for reading.

Aww Jacob

I'm sorry you had to go through that. You will definitely have much better luck with the Sebo. Everyone should take notice that this happened to you (wondering how many other people this did happen to & if it's the same model) & glad you're not hurt & the house didn't go up in a blaze. Maybe check out Which to see what & if they recommended this. Cheers! Mark D.

A sebo?
GOD!
Not only a Sebo, but an X SERIES?!
They are truely horrid machines.
Might as well take the brushroll out...it never touches the floor anyway.

Sorry to read that BUT

WE TOLD YOU SO!!!

But no, you didn't listen! There were other members other than I who had warned you about the Purepower upright. Complain to Hoover UK and see what they offer you - you can but only try, as they say.

I agree with the brushroll not touching the carpet bit after having my x1 for a year! But at least it won't blow up!

Or get a nice early bagged pure power and a nice takeaway with the change...

I wouldn't even bother with the X series - do like for like - after all, if you must have an upright vacuum cleaner with a manual height adjustment and similar bag capacity, the SEBO BS36 is a good workhorse. Thousands of schools and industrial areas who seem to approve of the worldwide commercial upright seem to like 'em.

Either that or the swivelling Felix - both have manual height adjusters if you are going to go down that route.

We all know that you sided with Steve, Alex and we all know that you are not happy with the decision that Steve is no longer on here.

However I did not bully Steve, but merely disagreed with him. Sadly for him I did not back down and there have been plenty of other members who have far more experience than him and who have also been at the brunt of Steve's remarks.

I respect those who have more than me. That's human nature - if you can't learn from experience, you shouldn't be on any forum at all.

I don't side with Steve, nor anyone as I don't know what happened and I couldn't care to know.
I just think it was a bit unfair to kick somebody off for reasons that have probably happened before with other members that have probably not been subjected to the same long term termination from the site.

Well, you can't have it both ways. First you say that you don't want to know what happened and then you give your opinion.

Best to ask the moderator if you really want to know why that member was taken off the site rather than stir up the past. Robert may well be happy to tell you, rather than second-hand news.
