Was watching a Brit on Youtube who found a new 867A with a bad switch. He went through the process (albeit painfully slow) of replacing the switch and the diffuser foam. And that's what got my attention...the diffuser. I've never seen one before. Obviously there to absorb carbon dust from the motor brushes. Was this a feature only common to Euro Connies, or to some models over the yrs of production?

diffuser?

I've opened up many Constellations in my lifetime, to replace cord or switch or whatever, but have never seen a diffuser. Obviously it was designed to trap carbon brush dust, possibly because if the Constellation is still on a carpet for a while, the exhaust will leave a black ring where it blows into the carpet over a period of time. Air-Way model 55's had the same problem. I guess only the European models had one, this is the first I've ever seen one.

That's what I've been thinking....only the Euro models, but I've only been inside two Connies so I thought I would ask.

Great idea...I'd be plenty pissed if the vac hovered over a light colored rug for a bit and left a black ring!
