In NZ the only wire nuts I have seen is in central vac wiring.
Wire nuts are a common feature of US made vacuums well into the 1990s, then replaced by crimp connectors that are squeezed down over the twisted wires. Every Kenmore I have through the 1990s and even some into the 2000s have them. Same with old Eurekas and Tristars.
 
OEM uses crimp on wire nuts, they can be removed by squeezing the edge of the crimped area back to round if you are careful. Some of them have biters and it might tear a bit of the wire. I've removed these all the time, they can come off without cutting the wire, so technically they are removeable without working loose.
