It appears that in Canada filterqueen has a new model, the "elite". It looks quite slick to me. It will be the same machinery inside I suppose. They also sell a thing called the "aqua defender" which appears to be a water filter.

Reading the website the only change I can see with the "Elite" ( hey, isn't that a Kenmore canister vacuum ? ) is a claim to coat the inside of the bucket with something they say prevents growth of microbes. Sure thing. Ten years from now will that coating still work?

Was hers lacking a 2 speed switch? I feel like all door to door model have had them at least back to the model 31 possibly even before that. The offshoot models like the princess and optima were lacking them.
I do think you're correct about the MicroBX coating, pretty sure I've seen that advertised before now.

The difference isn't just a different switch. The motors are different. F-Q two speed motors have four or five wires depending on whether or not it has a bag ( bin ? ) full indicator. The motors are like those old 2-speed Kenmores that had five wires. The switch is a dual pole, dual throw switch that switches the field between parallel and series.

🤦‍♂️Ya know....If i paid more attention to the locations of other members I'd have more answers.

Yes I'm aware the motors were different Phil, I've had a princess II open before which was super basic and just used a 2 wire motor. I was just pointing out how strange it was for a model to not have one of the two speed switches, aside from the retail models....Until I got a reminder that the machine in question was overseas.

Eh it's ok, I make little mistakes all the time too. It is like how an Electrolux d720 has a switch and a lead switch on each side. Then a long comes the d735 and later models which introduced a board and lots of wires. Interesting they didn't just leave it as it was.

My D730 and D745 have three wires coming off their motors. I am guessing they operate like an Ametek two speed motor switching between parallel and series operation to change voltage to the field. The two speed version of the Tristar CXL had a similar arrangement with three wires coming off the motor and a rocker to switch between low and high speeds. But, I have seen some Luxes like my D795 that use the third wire for the little light show they have that tells you how much power the motor is using. The D790 has the same variable speed control as the D795 but no light show and only two wires to the motor.

Maybe Ametek didn't make a two speed 220-240 volt motor ?

My d775 has about six wires on the board and two to the motor. The motor, even though it only had 2 wires, has a low, an automatic and a high suction setting.
I just received a D770 from Japan and haven't had a chance to take it apart and explore it.

Geez with the tariffs and brokerage fees added since the elimination of the former de-minimus exemption bringing over interesting vacuums from Japan just got really expensive. The tariff is 15% and 15% of a roughly $25 purchase price isn't much, but the brokerage wants their cut and the shipper adds another service charge. Japan used to be my happy hunting ground .................. sigh.

I wonder how much a trip to Japan and living there for about a year would cost. I wonder what an airline would say if you bought a vacuum as your carry-on luggage.
You will laugh but I bought a Dial-A-Matic off ebay several years ago and brought it home with me as a checked bag on my return flight. I had a businss trip that took me through Baltimore Airport, the seller lived nearby, so instead of paying out the hooter for shipping I arranged to meet the seller at the rental car terminal. He handed over the vacuum and I wheeled it through the rental car terminal ( ! ) and out to my car. Over the course of my three days in Lexington Park I bought a box, bubble wrap, blister packs and heavy duty strapping tape, the stuff with the fibers in it. I boxed it up nice in the hotel room ( wonder what the cleaning staff thought seeing and old Hoover sitting in the room while I was at work, the delicious thought of if ! ) and made sturdy handles on the outside of the box with the strapping tape. It was under 50 pounds and a checked bag cost only $25. What a deal. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
