What are yours ?

Mine have to be these two:

HOOVER - It lights where it's going, it's clean where it's gone! (So true!)
Electrolux - Nothing Sucks Like An Electrolux! (True also!)

Yours ?

The Ever-Popular Favorite:

Lewyt made an excellent cleaner, one ahead of its time in some ways. The company had one difficulty with its sales efforts - people reading the name often could not figure out how to pronounce it, which meant they were shy about trying to "ask for it by name" when shopping for a new cleaner.

Finally, some unsung genius of an ad writer came up with the slogan that made everything clear without being preachy:

"DO IT WITH LEWYT!"

Since it was a more innocent age, no one snickered.

I have always like the slogan Kirby used for so many years.
Kirby- 'More lesure time for you.'

It was created at a time when Kirbys were still smaller and easier to operate. From the Classic 1-CR on the slogan was more of a joke than truth, but I still think it was a great advertising slogan.

You Can Be Sure... If It's Westinghouse!

There was a large Westinghouse plant in Mansfield, OH, which was also the headquarters for the appliance division. They had an extremely large lighted sign with this slogan on the east side of one of their buildings. Anytime we were traveling when I was a kid and returning at night from points east, the sight of the Westinghouse sign always meant "we're almost home!" And their slogan prior to this one was "Every House Needs Westinghouse!"
Sadly, the sign has been gone since the late 70's, and many (but fortunately, not all) of the buildings in the Westinghouse complex have recently been demolished.

Die gute Wahl: Hoover!

This jingle keeps ringing in my ear till today, so stubbornly ;-)
It's been around here from the 60s to late 80s.
Here is one of later versions:

Miele: "just vacuuming"

This one I remember more for its storyline.

"Exceptionally demanding people prefer exceptional appliances. For all others who do not play golf: You should use a Miele vacuum for....just vacuuming!"

Miele: simply cheesy....

Ok, this might work in English, but in German it is but a nuisance:
"always" (immer) can mean 3 things:
- always / forever
- increasingly
- all the time / each time

Coming from this standpoint I simply HATE Miele's more than cheesy approach:
"Always better" (= better each time) somewhat ok (comparing test results and consumers' opinions)
"Increasingly better" (please do your work to make it come true, Miele's stuff overpriced but average has become reality here, good luck!)
"Always better" (pointing at a competition): Clearly no, there are other brands with similar results or with their products following up quite closely. Do not take a rest based on your brand name, Miele.

My guess is that the marketing airheads have figured out this (German) pun pretty well, unfortunately the double sided ambiguity does not reflect too well in other languages. In German at least it sounds pretty pompous and I hate people brushing off dandruff off their own business suits while having their "latte macchiato" and iPadding away uselessly.
Sorry but Miele as "always" better = clearly no. They must be more distinct about what they say (their good appliances speak a better language than their corporate appearance in the public does).
Tell them to kick these marketing airheads.

Well perhaps the older Miele models weren't that good, but my grandfather owns a Miele S5 Cat & Dog 2200W cleaner which works exceptionally well.

@ Jmurray, If anything, I think it is the other way round. Miele were always very, very good at producing vacuum cleaners but as time has gone on they have made lots of changes for the worse. This does not make them a lesser cleaner than others on the market, but it does make them poorer than previous models. It is almost as if the cleaners have been made to be only one or two stages better than their next competitor. It is almost as if they have decided their cleaners were too well built and have made changes so they will wear out quicker. As the years went by, I had more requests about parts for Miele than I ever did in the early days. It could be that more people owned the cleaners by then, I couldn't say.

Well yes, it was, I mean it is, but as the original poster seemed happy to carry on with a diversion, I followed suit. I keep forgetting that the internet is not like real life where one has a conversation that naturally branches off into sub topics.

Charlie:

That Lux slogan really was the truth when the company was at its height.

I remember the early '70s, when I worked a few doors away from the local Electrolux agency in Atlanta, GA. You could get a cleaner demonstrated, buy a new one, get accessories, or have one repaired - very often while you waited. You could trade one in on the latest and greatest model. If you didn't have much money, they had a whole refurbishment program to put you in an Electrolux and get you started as a customer. If you REALLY didn't have much money, they'd hand you a bank shaped like the cleaner you wanted to buy, which held a roll - ten dollars' worth - of quarters. When you filled it, you had a down payment.

One of the things I remember most fondly is that they never, EVER made anyone feel "poor" because they couldn't afford the TOL cleaner with the PN. They'd work with you any way it took - refurb, Model L, add the PN later, whatever.

A very professional, very old-school American business, and I sure miss it.

Danemodsandy, i totally agree with you. I dearly miss the old days of Electrolux too.
I come from a rural small town in Minnesota of about 1200 people, about 45 miles from the nearest Electrolux Branch Office (at the time, back in the day),,and practically every household in the town owned at least one if not 2 or more Electrolux's, And/or polishers to go with the cleaner.

Everyone had the same thing,,The new model they just bought, the one that was used before that, (now used as a downstairs or garage vac), and the old old one up in the attack, or given away or sold at a garage sale.

Practically everyone owned an Electrolux because they were the only company that would come to the door to sell, or service your cleaner. They would also bring you bags, shampoo,,whatever. The comming to your door to SERVICE the cleaner was a VERY big deal.

Every home owner there loved the Electrolux man,,,and the Electrolux man got to be a friendly face in town that everyone liked to see comming and welcomed in.
He was an older guy that wore a hat and carried a briefcase in one hand, and an Electrolux in the other! I remember he drove a new cream colored station wagon, with the ELECTROLUX logo on the side. (very impressive)

In the later years, he drove a mini van with the Electrolux Logo.

Infact it was a bid deal in town whenever someone bought a NEW Electrolux.
Everyone in the neighborhood would come to see the new purchase, and gasp with wonder.

I remember when it was my Grandma's turn,,,in early 1976 she bought a brand new Golden J, with the blue 50th Anniversary sticker on the back of the machine, and the top of the PN.
AAHHH,,,be still my heart,,i was in love with it from the minute i saw it.

NO ONE in the immediate neighborhood had a new Golden J yet,,,she was the first.

No one had seen a GOLDEN Electrolux before.

A VERY BIG deal at the time!!!

Plus, if you owned an Electrolux, that fact alone automatically meant that YOUR house was one of the cleanest in town!

How 'Bout....

NOTHING sucks like an ELECTROLUX!!!

Too right Rick.

I've seen many Vacuum Cleaners in the dump, but never an Electrolux 500 Series. That says a lot.
