That Lux slogan really was the truth when the company was at its height.

I remember the early '70s, when I worked a few doors away from the local Electrolux agency in Atlanta, GA. You could get a cleaner demonstrated, buy a new one, get accessories, or have one repaired - very often while you waited. You could trade one in on the latest and greatest model. If you didn't have much money, they had a whole refurbishment program to put you in an Electrolux and get you started as a customer. If you REALLY didn't have much money, they'd hand you a bank shaped like the cleaner you wanted to buy, which held a roll - ten dollars' worth - of quarters. When you filled it, you had a down payment.

One of the things I remember most fondly is that they never, EVER made anyone feel "poor" because they couldn't afford the TOL cleaner with the PN. They'd work with you any way it took - refurb, Model L, add the PN later, whatever.

A very professional, very old-school American business, and I sure miss it.

No surprise here! :-)

Eureka.

The very best in vacuum cleaners.

And more kinds of vacuum cleaners than anyone else in the world.

(Now that's what I call a confident message!)

Danemodsandy, i totally agree with you. I dearly miss the old days of Electrolux too.
I come from a rural small town in Minnesota of about 1200 people, about 45 miles from the nearest Electrolux Branch Office (at the time, back in the day),,and practically every household in the town owned at least one if not 2 or more Electrolux's, And/or polishers to go with the cleaner.

Everyone had the same thing,,The new model they just bought, the one that was used before that, (now used as a downstairs or garage vac), and the old old one up in the attack, or given away or sold at a garage sale.

Practically everyone owned an Electrolux because they were the only company that would come to the door to sell, or service your cleaner. They would also bring you bags, shampoo,,whatever. The comming to your door to SERVICE the cleaner was a VERY big deal.

Every home owner there loved the Electrolux man,,,and the Electrolux man got to be a friendly face in town that everyone liked to see comming and welcomed in.
He was an older guy that wore a hat and carried a briefcase in one hand, and an Electrolux in the other! I remember he drove a new cream colored station wagon, with the ELECTROLUX logo on the side. (very impressive)

In the later years, he drove a mini van with the Electrolux Logo.

Infact it was a bid deal in town whenever someone bought a NEW Electrolux.
Everyone in the neighborhood would come to see the new purchase, and gasp with wonder.

I remember when it was my Grandma's turn,,,in early 1976 she bought a brand new Golden J, with the blue 50th Anniversary sticker on the back of the machine, and the top of the PN.
AAHHH,,,be still my heart,,i was in love with it from the minute i saw it.

NO ONE in the immediate neighborhood had a new Golden J yet,,,she was the first.

No one had seen a GOLDEN Electrolux before.

A VERY BIG deal at the time!!!

Plus, if you owned an Electrolux, that fact alone automatically meant that YOUR house was one of the cleanest in town!

Too right Rick.

I've seen many Vacuum Cleaners in the dump, but never an Electrolux 500 Series. That says a lot.

That is quite possibly because the range is over 40 years old and people were already replacing them after less than 10 years service. Not that I don't agree that they were good, but some 20 years ago scrap 500 cleaners were ten a penny. They were quite desirable as they were easy to refurbish and sell on.

Sorry, I didn't mean to do that. Yes, they were incredibly well made, especially for a cleaner made almost entirely of plastic. They were not without their issues and it wasn't until the very end of the 550/560/502s run that all the major grumbles had been ironed out. And in fact even then it wasn't untill production of the Twin Turbo was long under way that Electrolux changed the hinges on the bag door/handle so that they were now part of the lower cord hook / carry handle and not an intergral part of the dust bag unit.

As for slogans, the 600 series hit the bill-boards with The Vac With The Tools On The Back.

Vac Slogans

I imagine an ad agency would say the best is one you remember that gets the point across quickly and easily.HOOVER The best of all time may be "It beats,as it sweeps,as it cleans"from about 1919.In the 30s they added "it lights" in front of IBAISAIC.WESTINGHOUSE "Every House Needs Westinghouse" is one of the greats when they had something for every room.LEWYT "Do it with a Lewyt"was known to almost every 50s housewife both explaining the pronunciation and the way to clean house. Before this the slogan was "Let Lewyt do it" for the businessman who needed a factory to manufacture his product. This is why Filter Queen came to Lewyt after WW2 but that is another story.ELECTROLUX "Touch no Dirt!Breathe no Dirt!See no Dirt!"was the perfect description for the 4ply self sealing filter bags. This would have been meaningless with the Electro-Regina-Lux and the LittleLux hand vacs with cloth bags.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

That's OK - I would have put a laughing icon next to that sentence to show I was saying it in a jokingly way, but I can't access the icons due to not being a VCCC member.

I like this one:

"You'll be happier with a Hoover!"

And you have to love this one:

"It Beats as it Sweeps as it Cleans!" Probably one of the most popular slogans of all time!

What about these two from the UK?

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">HOOVER ... Who better?</span>

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">and</span>

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">Don't Worry.  It's ELECTROLUX!</span>
