Eureka Brandywine Roto-Matic

I finally got this thing finished!!!  It's been a comedy of errors in the painting.  I messed up the paint finish four different times!  So I'd have to wait for it to dry completely, and then repaint.  That whole process took about three weeks! 


 


But I really like the color.  I don't know if this was a regular production color for this model.  Although, I have seen some uprights with a similar color.


 


I paired it with a Eureka Sweep-n-Groom Power Nozzle too.  I really think it is the best PN around!

When I finally opened it up, I encountered a lot of rust.  So everything got a new painted job after I got rid of the rust.


 


The motor sounded OK.  But being the dork that I am, I enjoy beefing things up.  So I installed a new 1 stage Ametek motor.  It is rated at 12 amps, a whopping 147 cfm, and 98" sealed vacuum.

The Eureka Type B bags aren't the best for filtration, so I installed a HEPA like dome filter on the motor.  I don't really know how effective they are, but I'm sure they're better than the original thin membrane filter that sat on top of the motor.

That will be an awesome vacuum. I have never used that newer style power nozzle, but if it is anything like the old one it woud be marvelous!

This is how she looked originally.  Cosmetically, she looked pretty good on the outside.  But on the inside, she was a rusty mess.   There was even more rust in the motor housing.

That turned out to be a great success! I guess it must be true, all good things comes to those who suffer the most. Congratulations on one fantastic finish!

You know, I don't think I would call that brandywine. Eureka's brandywine vacs were more purplish or wine coloured. Your paint job looks more like Mango Red... the name Miele uses for the suction only Contour canister in Canada:

Bill, you are the makeover King! Great color, looks brand new, and with the power of a new machine. I agree, Mango Red fits! I normally don't appreciate painted vacuums, but this is an exception, well done!

Nice work! Looks great. But do the wires get hot with the new motor? I would swap everthing to at least 16 gauge. That paint job is too beautiful to risk a fire.

Now that I think about it, I think the color is more like a cheap wine!  But Red Mango has a more elegant ring! 


 


As for the wiring, I didn't do anything to it.  The previous motor set up was rated at 10 amps (with the power nozzle).  So I'm guessing the vacuum motor itself was about 8 amps.  I did, however, change the switch to one that is rated at 12 amps.


 


And thanks for all the kind words on the paint job.  It took for ever to get it right, so I really do appreciate them!

I love the red color too!

I don't know what the original motor is rated but I must say that the original motor is QUITE powerful. Generally I end up opening the suction regulator valve on hose end or machine for use with my green one. I highly recommend eventually through another collector or eBay getting an original styled power head. I love the performance of my original style with the VGII brush. I had a Eureka Express canister and wasn't blown away by performance of the machine. The Express power head can be extremely overpowering and near impossible use on many throw rugs and area mats.

Thanks!  I haven't yet tried it on a throw rug, but I'm sure it will overpower the rug!  LOL!  That's one reason I like the new PN I have on it.  The VGIII brush roll with the brush stiffeners helps to propel the nozzle along.  The original VGII seems harder to push (unless the suction relief valve is opened).
