Dyson vs. Royal Everlast/Kirby

Ok, Dyson do 30 second TV spots. But how do Kirby get sales? And before you start hurling Sani-Emptors at me, I don't work for Inside Edition!

Kirby might try to shirk responsibility by blaming the distributors, but the salesmen are essentially the public face of their company. I have friends who have worked as Kirby salemen, who are still bitter about the experience of failing to get a single booking, and therefore being refused payment for weeks of work...

Dyson overpriced?! LOL

I agree with that, actually, I do think they're overpriced. There is no way I would pay £349 for a Dyson. Having said that, I wouldn't, and didn't, pay that for ANY vacuum, so thats not really a Dyson issue. I wouldn't pay that for a Sebo or Miele S7, and those are 2 of my favourites.

Family friend of ours, got pressured into buying a second hand Kirby in excess of $1500.

She was a 70 year old widow on a pension.

Department of Fair Trading was called. Nothing they hadn't heard before. She ended up returning the vacuum and getting a full refund.

I'm one of the neutral guys between Dyson and Kirby. Reason being, I like both.

I used to dog Dyson cleaners and constantly take note of the flaws, I admit it. Now that I look back on it I really do feel it was mostly because I followed other peoples opinions rather than make my own. Long story short, I got an older Dyson about a year ago. I tore it apart, learned the technology and of course vacuumed everything with it. As it ended up turning out, I loved it. From there I borrowed a book from a friend ("Against the odds" by James Dyson) and further educated myself on how the company evolved and how/why the original cyclonic technology was produced. I simply became fascinated. I now own two newer model Dysons and use them both all of the time.

Like EVERY vacuum brand and model, there are cons with the pros. I find things on my Dyson vacs that certainly could have been improved but I'm not going to disown them because of it.

Some of us like Kirbys and some prefer Dysons (or other brands instead). I personally like both quite a bit. When it comes down to it for the individual, its your money, your house and your time. Buy what YOU like and not just because of others opinions. I made myself look like a fool a few years back when I followed the band wagon of "Dyson is crap" people and never got my own facts. When I finally opened my eyes and did, I clearly had a change of mind! Keep up the great work Mr. Dyson. Same to the Kirby engineers.

Very wise words

Matthew, I do not own a Dyson but have used one at a friends a few times. I don't seem to find them user friendly but then that is because I haven't taken the time to see how they really go together. They do seem a bit heavy too but then so are Kirby's. However I am sure that they are very good cleaners and one day I will own one. I'm so glad that we don't all like the same kind of vacuums, that would be very boring. I really do admire James Dyson and what he has done.

Obviously, I'm Kirby guy. But even I have to admit that the Dyson Ball is quite an innovative design. I played around with one at the store a while back and was quite impressed. Just out of curiosity, which Dyson is the most effective deep cleaner? Some day I would like to get a Dyson. So if I had to guess, would it be the DC28?
