HOOVER moth crystals

What an amazing find! I knew about Hoover's demothing attachment (the Mothimizer) that went through several versions until the 1950's, but I never knew they had their own Hoover branded moth crystals! That can must be from the 1950's, considering it has the circle Hoover logo and mentions the bag in the instructions, which was the last version of the Mothimizer. It's also interesting that moths were such a big problem back then that most vacuum cleaners had some type of demothing attachment. Many just called theirs a demother, but some had their own name for it, including Hoover's Mothimizer. Air-Way had the Wirl-Away Insector, Electrolux had the Vaporizer, Filter Queen had the Jet Demother, Kirby had the Crystalator, Lewyt had the Snufficator, and Regina had the Reginarator. Others may have had their own names for their demothers, but these are the only ones I could think of.
Electro-Hygiene, which I sold in 1974 and again in 1976, had a completely different approach to moth control, and a completely different use for the crystals. For demothing, they recommended Keyspray, which was a liquid used in the sprayer. A sample size can was included in the Extra Equipment Kit for the uprights and the attachment set for the tanks and it was available in quart or gallon cans from the dealer. The crystals were used in a chamber located under the headlight on deluxe upright models or where the hose connected on the tanks, but instead of moth control they were used for deodorizing and sanitizing. Their crystals were specially made with 99.6% paradichlorobenzene and 0.4% formaldehyde and according to the sales pitch, "killed the germs in the air while you cleaned."
