Never happened to me before. Probably least prone to static would be my metal Sanitaire, since it's metal is grounded through the cord.
 
the only time I got shocked by the dyson is back when we were in kansas and the winters there are incredibly dry, but since moving to iowa that has stopped.

I get it too from my DC15. It usually happens when I brush my other hand near the extension tube hidden in the handle, when hoovering carpets in the usual upright mode.

I was wondering if the clear-bin transferred an electrostatic charge to the aluminium extension tube.
