Well what a lucky Saturday I had yesterday when Pul and nipped over to see Mike in Chester when we went to his storage container to see some of his vacs and washers there.

On route I notifced a skip outside someones house with what I thought to be a junked Hoover Ranger thrown atop.

Well 1 second later I saw a pink handle sheath sticking out which caused great excitement and me having to yell for Mike to pull over so we could go rescue it.

So off it came with the owners permission and the poor bedraggled thing was rescued.

It was in a right state as you can imagine after having a non original bag fitted, a new cord and years of abuse thrown at it.

The weirdly amazing thing though is it dosnt have the dark red footswitch on it but a bright red one - much like those from the U.S Hoover Vaults imported from the UK.

We checked its serial number and it seems its a really early one - suggested by the Hoover service manuals that it was made in the first 6 months of production.

We have spent some time today cleaning it up and stripping it down with Nitromores to re spray it and make it new again.

It was dinged to hell and wanted the FULL spa, botox and facelift treatment.

So heres some pics of the serial number

It would be fun for those who own one to post pics of the serial number to see who has the earliest...

So who has?

:) :) :)

More red switch vision.

The cleaners new lease of life will be posted when I get our camera back off Paul later this week, by then it should hopefully look its best.

I have plans to source some nice pink fabric to make a bag and get it printed with Hoover down the side as finding the original bag is practically impossible.

At least a nice pink bag of some sorts is nicer than a Harvest Brown thing.

rescued senior

Hi Mate!
What a fantastic find! What are we talking 1958/9? Is it a 2 speed? It looks like hose has been used regulary as paint is scratched in converter housing. Didnt this model have the metal slide top bag clip on that delicate material bag with a paper bag inside? I dont think that particular type bag lasted well did it? and i suppose after 50years you would struggle to find a machine of this model with the bag surviving ay? Never mind this will be great when its finished WELL DONE!

Simon - We dated my example to around May/June 1959 or so.
They started production in Feb 1959.

~I dont know that much about Seniors or De Luxes in this instance but im learning.

We had a couple of seniors in my family as I grew up and im having to learn all the facts as i collect them.

I prey someone else is going to good enough at answering your questions - perhaps Simon (74 Simon) or Seamus maybe - cheers if you do :)

Its headlamp dosnt work but we have spares we can put in when restored.

Cheers

Rob

Rob...

Congrats on you latest Hoover find! The 652 is a beautiful machine. I am sure that you will make it gleam. Here is a photo of mine. Your switch is the same color too. The other 652s that I have seen seem to have a maroon foot switch. Can anyone shed any light on this? Mine is a 110 machine so it runs perfectly without any changing of the voltage.

Hoover - Who Better...!!! & Pretty in Pink!!!

Well that was the find of the centuary Rob & Paul!!!, Just as well you where being the back seat driver, I`d have never have noticed it as its on a very busy corner junction, near a Pelican crossing and has speed bumps all along the road, its enough just driving forward!!! (Rob nearly deafened me & Paul, we thought he was having some sort of fit, he could get the words out only, STOP, STOP TURN Round NOW!!!...LOL

Upon looking at the serial number of it, its an early one, and seeing the RED foot pedal and RED BELLOWS!!! I remembered the discussion we had when your good self Tom showed us the U652 from Perivale etc....Tom can you check yours to see if yours has gotten RED BELLOWS etc??

Toms`s serial number is JS 23,758, Robs is JS 23, 409, Mine is JS 221,124

The Serial Production Numbers are:
JS. 10,001 - January 1959
JS. 37,500 - July 1959
JS. 346,000 Closed January 1962

Hoover

Hi Simon

Its a 1959 model production start, this model only had 1 motor speed, it changed on the next model the 652A in grey to a two speed motor, and yes the first bags had the Top of Bag slide off to empty, with the paper hygenisac inside...

Hi Alan, glad you like the connie, i love the pinkies & burgundy`s of Hoover, lovely colour, I picked up a later set in green, Senior, Junior & Connie + Dustette...the husband had bought his wife a complete set for a georgian townhouse with 3 floors, Senior downstairs, Junior Upstairs bedrooms, Connie for the top floor study / bedroom & a dustette for his car all colour co-ordinated!!!..

Cheers, Mike

cheers Mike

Thanks for that, Mike, that must have been the time when the first batch of senior suffered with the melting plastic hood? or was that after the 2speed motor was introduced? I love them in those colours. It must have been so refreshing at that time to see cleaners in the shops and our homes so bright and colourful after years of browns and black/ bronze stern colours not that i dislike them, they were fitting in thier time. I love the seniors I have a blue 652c that came with an older set of tools, The detachable converter and blowing "funnel" and metal pipe clips. Easier to unblock the converter but on the later permanently attached one you had the 4 screw plate. I must admit, it baffles me why hoover settled on this unsealed method of senior converter, when i think competely closing in the fan chamber in that area, so theres no gap when the converter engages would have done the trick, dont you agree?

All of the color co-ordinated Hoovers in the Georgian townhouse sound fascinating. I like his way of thinking. We lived in two places after I was born with single floors, three that were two story, and back to one floor here. We only had one vacuum at a time, then later here we got a Hoover(finally!) Concept One for the carpet, and kept the Electrolux for hard floors and dusting.

js 263054

thats my serial number js 263054 what does that make it?

i should point out i got this for £6 at an auction 10 years ago and did not know they were rare, it has original bag and cable and is in very good condition. I have stopped using it as my daily driver to save it from scratches now i know its rare!
