Nice Find!

The D-50 is one of my favorite Kirbys too, and the lighted logo is one of my favorite features! Give it a good polishing with Mother's Mag and you'll have one beautiful machine! Here's before & after pics of mine.
By the way, where in Ohio are you? I'm in Galion.

I'm in Cleveland...

so the Kirby rebuild shop is 10 minutes from me. I have the 50 and a Classic Omega just begging to go there. I just had a D80 done there so they will have to wait for now.

Got a jar of Mothers ready to go work on the 50!

70catalina : better off to learn and rebuild it/ restore it yourself. due to the changing times, if you take it to kirby, it wont come back with any original trim, cord or bag, unless you ask it back, and even then ive heard that sometimes doesnt happen. if it runs fine, cosmetically refurb it yourself. you'll be teaching yourself a new craft, and wont have to run the risk of original parts going to kirby's trash pile

Will...

I hear what you are saying about the Kirby rebuild shop. I was lucky my D 80 came back with almost all green. I reused my green cord, and had to hunt down a new bag guard from a Kirby distributor. For almost 400 bucks they should still have all the correct color trim.

I'm happy with how the D 50 turned out. Not as good as Kirby, but hey, it's close and it was all done by hand in 4 hours.

Thanks Jeff...

next up for the spa treatment will be the Classic Omega. I hope to add a Tradition to the fleet down the road.

I wonder if that Tradition you're after would have a locking headlight cap (a blue button), a speed switch under the headlight cap (please note most of these speed switches have been replaced by the one mounted on the fan case, below the intake opening), and a metal fan?
