1959 Desoto Firesweep

Hi everyone! Wanted to share my happy news! Just got my dream car Sunday! It's not at our house yet, but hopefully the end of this week! Let me start off by saying: my actual dream car is a 1958 Plymouth Fury, but those are rare and expensive, so since I was 12 that's what I wanted! Once I realized the cost and rarity, I gave up hope on owning a Christine and just wanted a late 50's Mopar! Can't believe I finally got one!!! His name is "Sweepy"!!! He's got a 361 wedge, 2 speed powerflite, push button trans! He doesn't run, but we will fix that! Can't wait to restore him! Love my Sweepy!!!! -Michelle

All my Grandpa ever drove was Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler from the Joliet dealership. I remember his 1955 Desoto Sedan Deluxe! I still have the last car he ever bought, a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager, less than 100,000 original miles! Good luck with the Desoto!

The Furries are the rare ones, only about 5,000 made in '58! Keep on the look out for other '58 Plymouths, or you can even convert a '57 to a '58. The movie car was more parts Belvedere than Fury!

Powerflite was officially gone after 1961. The same year that DeSoto put in it's final, brief appearance.

Thats a wonderful car you have there. Best of luck restoring your new baby!!! They aren't easy to restore IMHO, but SO worth it afterwards!!!

Thanks for the info!!! I LOVE THIS CAR!!!! I'm not sure what I'm going to paint it. It originally is a medium silver body, white check mark, white roof, and blue interior. I was thinking either painting the body black and painting the roof the original silver or painting it like Christine. The interior will all be changed! When I was 12 and knew the car I wanted, I knew the interior would be black with black and white checkers, sparkle vinyl, and piping, and glitter! I want it to look like the 50's puked in it! Ha Ha! We are getting the car tomorrow!!!! YEY!!! BTW, yes, that car was on EBay! He's a town over from us! I will post more pics soon! -Michelle

When I was a kid, back in the '60s and '70s, we had a '59 Olds Fiesta 88 station wagon that same silver and white color combo. We called her the Grey Ghost after a legend along the South Carolina coast of a grey clad figure who would appear to people and warn them of impending hurricanes. Some say it's the ghost of a Confederate soldier who was lost in a storm as he home to see his dying sweetheart. People who see him and heed his warning generally emerge from the storm unscathed.
