Thanks for all of the history on the cars you grew up with! That's awesome! When I was about 4 and could remember cars, my dad had a late 40's or early 50's black pickup, don't remember the model! I do remember sitting in it and playing with the high beam switch on the floor, thought that was the bee's knees! Also, when I was 4, that was when I knew I wanted to work on cars! So, I think my dad sold that truck and then he got a 1958 Edsel! It was really cool because it had the push buttons in the middle of the steering wheel! My dad was missing the cover for the push buttons, so you just saw a light bulb in there, he would take different colored straws and cover the bulb up with it! The push buttons didn't work and he installed a floor shift. I remember he would freak me out when we would be driving in it and he would hit one of the push buttons and I would scream thinking the car would blow up or something! Ha Ha! He then sold that car and got a 1964 Chevy Impala 4 door. That car was pretty fun! He would freak me out in that one too! We would be going down the highway and he would pull the keys out of the ignition and would scream!!! Ha Ha! When I was 17 my parents were proud of my grades in school and bought me a 1966 Ford pickup truck! It had a three on the tree! It was hard for me to get use to driving it! Only drove it a few times and then it sat/my dad sold it. My dad had a 1948 Chevy pickup with a three on the tree too when I was in high school! It was pretty cool too! He sold that one as well. What sucks the most is that my dad was a good mechanic, but was a raging alcoholic, so he never had the patience for teaching me! So, I never learned about cars until I met my husband in 2006, so I was 21. I think it's cool that I'm not even 31 yet, and I've learned so much about cars and work on them for a living and also have my dream car!!!! Absolutely thrilled!!! :)

Thought you would find that amusing!!! Ha ha! Haven't touched chainsaws in a really long time!!! We have been focusing on the cars right now! We have now 5 Chevy Chevettes, I have a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, a 1991 Chevy Beretta, and now a 1959 Desoto Firesweep! All of these cars are getting custom things and what not! We have a lot to do! Ha Ha! :)

My husband changed the transaxle in the gold one with the parts car Fiero transaxle so it would shift! After that we lost interest because we kept acquiring Chevettes! So, we sold the gold Fiero because I wanted the Desoto! Also, got rid of the parts car too! I only got the Fiero as another back up car, but since we acquired all of the cars we really love, it had to go! :) -Michelle

How about a Bently. As far as old mopars when I was a kid we had a 57 Plymouth wagon, 60 full size Dart Pioneer 4 door, 54 Chrysler 2 door straight 8, a bunch of Cadilacs, and other old interesting cars.
I personally owned a 50 fluid drive Coronet that I never got running, a 41 military Power wagon, my Dart and a bunch of other Mopars and other cars, I think I added up to like 26 since I was a teenager. Many were parts cars or ones to flip but at least that many at least briefly.
You might want to look into upgrading as much of the brakes and suspension to newer versions that might fit from newer versions of Mopars.
I plan on converting my Dart to big bolt disk brakes and use the bigger parts out of later cars to make it stop way better, and never break, plus handle better and have a better selection of wheels and tires.
You shouldn't be able to tell at a casual glance but it would make the car nicer and safer to drive.

It's so sad that your dad's disease of alcoholism robbed him of the ability to share with you the skills associated with your shared passion for cars. I know from personal experience that it can be difficult to think about that might have/could have/should have been, but I'm sure that makes it even more special that you can share those things with your husband. Sounds like you're richly blessed with things that bring you happiness.

Sweepy is beautiful!! Congratulations.

I ran across one of those on the internet painted light pink. I really hate pink, but it looked very sharp and very 50's. Wanted a 58 Fury forever here too, that and a candy apple red 1960 hearse with silver flames and crager SS rims.

I have strange taste. LOL

Thanks for the compliments!!! I love Sweepy too!!! I've seen a 1959 Desoto Sportsman on YouTube that's pink with a gold metal sweep and it looks great!!! If Sweepy was a girl I would've considered painting it pink! I know about strange taste, I love a lot of different cars for different reasons! I love my Sweepy like I love my 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera named Bubs! I have 5 cars and my husband has 3. I have a 1980 4 door Chevy Chevette named Roxy, a 1985 Chevy Chevette named Max, a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera named Bubs, a 1991 Chevy Beretta named Charlotte, and a 1959 Desoto Firesweep named Sweepy! My cars are all sentimental to me in very different ways! My husband has a 1985 Chevy Chevette named Beesty, a 1984 Chevy Chevette named Winky, and a 1977 Chevy Chevette named Scooty! We love cars!!! BTW, I worked on a Hearse at work, I named him Herbert! I had to do some body work to the driver's side. I'll include a few pics of it! Thanks again! :) -Michelle

Neil Young once had a 1949 Buick Roadmaster hearse, which he named "Mortimer Hearseburg", or "Mort" for short. The title track of his 1976 collaboration with Stephen Stills, "Long May You Run," is actually an ode to that vehicle.
 
I know he's a Firesweep, BUT....

HA HA! We actually are putting all other vehicles and projects to the side for now to work on dear Sweepy! We will be putting a 4.3 V6 in his 1985 Chevette this winter, fixing the floors on my 1984 Chevette, and hopefully doing a few minor things to my 1980 Chevette! This spring I will be working hard on my Ciera!!! I'm wanting to drop a 3.8 with supercharger and a 4T60HD trans with overdrive in him! I have a lot of goals and dreams!!! Would love to take Ciera's engine a 3.3 and drop it in my Beretta and put a turbo on her!! That'll all happen, not sure exactly when!!! Plus, got a 1974 Triump TR6R motorcycle all apart in the basement that we are working on too! I'm putting a springer front end on him and making him into a bobber/chopper! :) -Michelle

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! You can be Sweepy's God Father! Ha Ha! Too many projects!!!! Plus, I have a 1970's Hamilton Beach electric knife all apart that I bought at a garage sale a while back for 50 cents! It doesn't work right, so got it apart! Also, just bought an NOS early 1950's radio bake light cabinet for my Zenith owl eye! Would love to get that thing all transferred over to the new case and get him up and working!!! Also, got an early made General Electric Trip Whip off of Craigslist this summer that I would love to get up and use soon! All these things and no time to do them in! :) -Michelle
