I did not realize they were still making anything like this Eureka.
The design is so simple and pure. I like the color combination of light blue-gray and black.
Note that is has a soft cloth bag,metal wheel supports,metal handle bail,
metal bottom plate and beater bars and metal handle release.
The bags are huge and "cheap" at $2.99 for 3, so they can be replaced often.

What a contrast to the clunky,heavy, bagless monsters in the stores today.
Very light weight and the step on switch and handle release are large and easy to see and operate.

How long since you bought a new upright that you could really use the middle handle postion?
It is like going back in time. It has a nice sound and the 6 position Dail-A-Nap is easy to adjust and you can tell within 3 seconds when it is set at the correct number. So easy to carry and well balanced compared to most of todays' uprights.
It has a full zippered bag and the handle release is right where it should be at the back of the machine. Also has full wrap around furniture guard.
This machine does one thing well-clean carpets.
It acutally seems better built than some of the machines in the $500.00 range.
I have used several of the newer uprights that the plastic actually "creaks" as you use operate the machine.
I think this machine would be a good choice for an older person who has a smaller house and wants a simple.easy to operate,economical upright.

It does have a short power cord but I have a new EXPENSIVE German canister vacuum with both a too short power cord and a short electric hose that makes the machine very hard to use.
Note the metal bottom plate and the beater bar and a nice soft outer bag that unlike the hard plastic bins and containers do not damage the furnitre.
Very well balanced machine to use and carry.

Those are really nice vacuums.  If you ever wanted to, you could always upgrade to the ST bag system quite easily and inexpensively.  Is that a 5.5 amp motor?

I thought this might be a nice inexpensive combination for an older user. Both machines are under $200.00.
The small tank has a nice size bag,long cord and hose and can be set on end.

I am sure you are correct about the motor size. It is not quiet like a Miele but it has a nice old purr along with the vibration on my cut pile rug.
It DOES NOT have that screeming ear spliting racket that most new uprights have today. This will not be vacuum I will ever use just beause of the filtration and my allergies but I wanted an example of the Eureka style upright.
As a matter of fact,this Eureka sounds very similar to the Eureka made power nozzle that came with my chrome top Rexiar and it's over 35 years old.

Quite a marvelous find!

In this day and age of chintzy, disposable "plastivacs," that Eureka really is a breath of.fresh air. It's very similar to the Sanitaire commercial uprights, which have long been known for their efficiency and reliability.

I personally have a Hoover Guardsman commercial upright (as well as two older Hoover Convertibles) which, like your Eureka, are very sturdy and clean beautifully while using only half the wattage of.the typical bagless upright. The same is true of Hoover's Professional Series uprights, which also have detachable cords to make servicing that much easier.

Congratulations on your new Eureka upright. Paired with the Mighty Mite canister, you have a sturdy, economical and efficient cleaning system.

You can buy bags with much better filtration than the original ones supplied with it, just go to a vac shop and ask for the best filtration they have. The ones I use have slightly better filtration than standard paper, and no dust is visible in the outer bag. They are only about $4 for 2 bags, but as you said they are huge.

Great machine, Rob!  I agree with all of the points you have made.  When I did a restoration on my Eureka model 2091, I found that Riccar makes a line of HEPA filter bags -- and they make an F&G bag.  I bet if you called your local Riccar dealer, they'd have these bags in stock.  I have one in all of my Eureka uprights, and really can't ever see myself using regular paper bags again.

They should be selling these online now for various models. They make a nice hepa type c for Electrolux.

I got this from the Eureka web site. It was $119.00 with FREE shipping.
Thanks for the tips you guys have sharred about the bags.
This machine will not be used in my living quarters because of allergies. I will use it down in my vacuumland. I am a Rexair Rainbow convert after seeing how much less dust there is on the house with it's use. It has really helped my allergies.
I wanted an example of a Eureka upright and was just shocked that they still even made a product like this one.
I am just blown away at how simple,well designed and yet the very low price of this machine.
I have seen so many new "PLASTIC" uprights that are so OVER done and cheap looking that this old style upright was a surprise. Even the handle bail and release lever are metal.I can't tell you how many of my new uprights have had pieces break even with careful use.
I don't think many places carry this model as it is so plain and it seems like most buyers want the attached tools which are totally worthless to me when trying to clean hardwood floors.
I have several EXPENSIVE uprights that have very powerful suction BUT the tools are all but useless because the hose compresses and the machine tips over.
This Eureka just glides over even the thick carpets,really vibrates the carpet and you can feel the air flow when you put your hand in front of the nozzle.

Hey Trebor - indeed it's nice to know that you can get a more lightweight version of the upright if you prefer. And isn't that nice long 7-foot hose on the Mighty Mite a pleasure to use?!

Just wish I could get Electrolux to sell these with the name "Eureka" on them - not Sanitaire. The old Eureka Williams "E" logo would be a nice nostalgic touch too! Do you have any pull at Electrolux North America? :-D

I actually just bought the gray/black 1934B and a matching Sanitaire MM canister for my country house. I love them! The MM is a little noisy, I'm used to a Miele C3 we have for our apartment.

I like how light weight each one is, esp. the MM which I use to dust and do the stairs, etc. I like a bagged machine and converted the 1934 to the ST type bags and put a vibragroomer II on it. It's perfect. You can also get attachments for it, which I did from evacuumstore:
