Rainbow D2 with Eureka Power Nozzle

The power nozzle with my first D2 had the same holes.  I questioned whether they were really necessary but discovered after taping over them that on smooth-surfaced carpeting the nozzle clamped too tightly to the carpet and heavier sand/grit would rattle forever inside the nozzle....there wasn't...

Is this normal for my Miele?

A second thought.... Perhaps the carbon brushes are still "seating" themselves and shedding more.   Give it a little more time and then install a new filter and see if the buildup has slowed down.

Is this normal for my Miele?

I never had any dust escaping the bags in my Miele.  I remember the post here awhile ago about the issues involving one particular style of bag but I wasn't using that style.  The black on the post-motor filter is carbon from the motor brushes.  It takes months of daily use before my filters...

    Kirby Dirt Meter Setup

I sold Kirbys back in the 70s.  The pitch of the motor would go up dramatically as the pad in the dirt meter clogged.  Usually, you couldn't go for more than a few seconds before the airflow was completely choked-off.   The most disagreeable part of the demo was shampooing the room; more...

    Plaster Dust Test

That's an interesting comparison.  I would have thought that the cyclonic action in the Tristar bag wouldn't have been effective on really fine dust.  Usually you see demonstrations of the effect with sand or something more coarse which wouldn't coat a surface the way plaster dust will.  ...

    Rainbow D4 SE PE Test

I had terrible allergies as a child, and noticed a tremendous difference when we switched from a Eureka cannister and Hoover upright to a Rainbow.  The air smelled fresh and there were no more itchy eyes and sneezing after vacuuming.  A couple relatives had had Rexairs (model B) and always raved...

    Rainbow D2 question

The earlier models were not grounded, as all previous Rexairs.  If there's no PN outlet but there's a grounded cord then the cord is a replacement.  I'm not sure at what point UL must have decided they had to be grounded.  My mom's, (sans PN) purchased around 1972-ish wasn't grounded, nor the...

    Past Store Vacuum Displays

I remember the beach ball thing at Montgomery Ward's too.  And right across the aisle was the dishwasher with the see-thru sides so you could watch the spray action.  It was better than an amusement park.  If I ever wandered off during a shopping trip my folks always knew where they could find me!

EUREKA 1424 TV AD FROM 1980

No problem, Bill Those details are probably meaningless except to people who worked there.  The effect of those details are not lost on the customers though.  Instead of locally controlled stores selling quality merchandise tailored to the tastes of the particular region, where customer service...

EUREKA 1424 TV AD FROM 1980

You're right.  I watched an episode tonight and saw Donaldson's right before (or after, I forget) the shots in the IDS Center.

EUREKA 1424 TV AD FROM 1980

The famous "hat toss" was in front of Dayton's.  There is a statue of her on that spot.

EUREKA 1424 TV AD FROM 1980

There's one clarification though.....the department store division was sold to May Company but even as that was in the works, Federated (owner of Macy's) was working a deal to purchase May so that in one fell swoop they could make Macy's a national brand.   I lived through the whole sordid...

EUREKA 1424 TV AD FROM 1980

Talk about a trip down memory lane.  I remember all of those old TV ads in the vid!   I was going to explain the history of Dayton's but somebody beat me to it!
