These were

Actually the Birtman design, but made by Whirlpool in the early 60s, great machines, a smallish fan that really turns some rpm.I had one of these as a kid, Wish I still did!

I have one in the collection. Awesome how the dirt is blown downwards and then back toward the bag. I got mine from Alex Braun, he found TWO of them one day and shared one with me for the Vacuum Cleaner Museum. The motor is definitely high RPM.

Just thought I'd save the pics for later...

These pics are fairly good of the Lady Kenmore Upright. This is done on the washer site (saving the pics) so that later one can see/use/refer them if need be... It's not a bad idea sometimes... Esp. abt. rare stuff...

Look how sloppy Whirlpool was with the Pliobond when manufacturing that machine. They got it all over the place where the aluminum fan case meets the body. I have that model in the collection - it's the same way on mine. Someone in manufacturing didn't care and quality control didn't catch it.

Yes,is a tacky sealent job!More out there than just from when the parts were bolted together!Someone was sleeping in the quality control dept-but nice vacuum nonetheless-again would rather have this one then the Kenmore TRASH made today.

Tom,

Considering that Whirlpool had just taken over, shook up, and was probably about to close the Fullerton Avenue facility, not really surprised that the machine would be slapped together by disgruntled/about to be jobless employees. I know that you have said that Whirlypoop shut them down after running a supply of parts, but if this ran as late as 1962-3??, did they just move the tooling to a corner of a WP facility and still slam them out for Sears in Roe's butt, or was the factory around longer than thought?

Also, what year exactly did Singer start making thier upright. I want to say 1964, but I've been told it was later.

Whoever gets this will end up with the last of the PREEEN sounding uprights.

Chad
