Windows 10??

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I agree with Gary. My rather ancient Dell laptop runs better under Win 10 than it did with Win 7. And this machine originally shipped with Vista! The only glitch I had was an update loop where it couldn't complete a cumulative update for a week or so but an update finally came in that fixed it. Relatively smooth sailing ever since, considering it's Windows. Right now, I'm looking forward to updating my Macs to "El Capitan".

Hmm, interesting! Well, this computer did originally have Windows Vista on it....it's a former Lenovo business computer that was refurbished & resold with Windows 7 on it. Guess if you guys are finding Windows 10 boots up quicker on your computers of the same vintage, looks like this one is taking a trip to the repair shop for a cleanup!

Jamie, I am slow to take on change, older of course, but my 19 year old quasi grandson says he can take it out and restore it to 7, I may let him do it. Not saying it is bad, just not as comfortable with it. Seems to run ok for what that is worth? Though 7 did also until it started its bits and pieces of 10 install over months. Look into it totally I guess there?

Well -

My Lenovo Desktop and Lenovo laptop came with windows 8 (they are about 2 yrs old) I immediately added a free program called "classic shell" and within about 10 minutes, my computers looked exactly as if they were running windows 7, but with the smoothness of 8.1. I have had hardly a problem in 2 years and I didn't want to upgrade to 10 because what I have has been working so well..so I've just ignored the notification at the bottom.....

Doing some video watching on windows 10, I noticed privacy is a major issue (even when adjusting privacy settings!) I even wonder to myself if this is even the case with windows 8 or 8.1 or 7!

I agree with the other poster that all windows users are going to end up on 10 if they want to keep using windows, probably through forced updates.

Don't kid yourself, it is the same for EVERY modern Windows OS.  I couldn't care less if I'm honest - I'm doing nothing illegal and if Microsoft want to go through my Vacuum Land posts then so be it!

Besides, even if you use an OS which doesn't spy on you (if one exists), then you shouldn't use Google, YouTube or Facebook (to name a few) because THEY will spy on you themselves regardless of operating system!!

I don't want to sound paranoid, but "they are everywhere".

They're probably here right now...  Oooh...

I'm about petrified to buy a new computer, I'm a die-hard 7 fanboy! 8 is on my laptop, and its bad enough with the lack off a start button and the forced updates, I'm having nightmares over 10! Call me a conspirator, but I think it's a bit questionable when Microsoft just wants to GIVE you their latest operating system...yes I know I'm paranoid...anyone else want a tin foil hat?

Mark, if you don't mind me asking, does that ClassicShell program bring back the start menu and remove those annoying automatic updates?

I'll likely end up just building a computer and taking the hard drive out of my old 7 desktop, AKA the one with the OS that never let me down! 7 forever, baby!

Me!  I'm the same.  Microsoft have managed to make every other OS a success (even Windows 8, God knows how!) and not once have they offered a free upgrade.

I'm still suspicious.

Jamie

If you are so skeptical of Microsoft & their operating systems, then why don't you just change to Linux, or make your computer a Hackintosh?

And as for being suspicious of Microsoft offering free upgrades, it's because Windows 8 & 8.1 were a massive failure, & Microsoft would rather forget it never happened. I know lots of people who STILL complained about Windows 8 even after the upgrades & Windows 8.1 came out.

Rob - I'm skeptical of why they are offering Windows 10 for free, but that doesn't mean I don't like their systems.  In fact, Windows is still (in my opinion) the best out there.

Classic Shell

is Awesome! It's just a free download and it creates a shell start button, which you can change to a windows start button. or you can leave the shell start button. You right click that shell start button to get to the classic shell settings where you can change this or that......If someone used my computers they would think they were using windows 7. This is why I didn't bother updating to 10, because everything has worked so good with what I currently have. I even think you can use classic shell on windows 10 (not that you would need it since it has start)
