So PC not my strong point here guys, brains feel free to kick in with imput? Have windows 7, doing fine, wise to do the upgrade or wait and see??

I completely agree with Jamie

After Beta testing several versions of Windows (8 was the last one I tested), I would definitely hang tight at least until it's had time to get some of the kinks worked out of it, possibly even wait until a service pack release! I've learned (the hard way) early adoption of operating systems, especially Windows based ones isn't the best choice at times. Personally I like 7, it's a useable, stable operating system and like XP, it just works.....8, I absolutely HATE! I've had more frustrations out of 8 than I had with ME and Vista combined!!!! Just my two cents worth.

I would just go ahead & upgrade to Windows 10 if I was you. You are getting it free, & Microsoft is only offering the free upgrade for 1 year. After that, you have to pay for it. You're getting a upgraded operating system for FREE....how can you beat that?! From what I hear, it's supposed to combine the best features of Windows 7 & Windows 8, so that will be nice. My ex Craig, who is a computer network engineer, says Microsoft has a tendency to put out 1 bad OS, then a good one....So, since Windows 7 was good, & Windows 8 was bad until Windows 8.1 was released, then Windows 10 should be a good one. I will be upgrading to Windows 10 Professional, since my computer has Windows 7 Professional on it now, I will keep everyone updated if something bad happens.

My main computers run Mac OS X and I've been taking advantage of Apple's free upgrades (Mavericks and Yosemite) for the past couple of years. That said, I've got an old POS Dell laptop that has Win7 on it. It's got a bad case of "Windows Rot" so I'm thinking of upgrading it to Win 10 and if that doesn't fix it, I'll give it the ultimate upgrade--to Linux Mint.

my computers..

I have four computers currently running in my house. A 2012 iMac which is running Yosemite, A 2009 MacBook which is running Yosemite and two Dell computers, one of which is running Windows 7 Home Professional and the other which is running XP. I love the Apple computers, they are much faster and viruses can't get into them :)

I spent about four hours running update after update on that Dell laptop before the little "Get Win 10 App" icon finally appeared. I guess that's the price I pay for having hardly used it in the past six months. But it's now in the queue for the upgrade. The good news is that after about 100 updates and patches, the machine is back to working like it's supposed to--or at least as well as a 2008-vintage Windows machine is capable of working.

Aside from this ancient Dell Vostro 1700 that I only fire up maybe four or five times a year, my primary computers are both 17-inch MacBook pros, a 2007 and a 2009 model that run very nicely on Mac OS X 10.10 'Yosemite'. I've also got a very ancient HP Compaq nc6200 that has the latest Linux Mint on it and runs circles around the Dell with Win7 Professional installed. I've also got an HP Z-Book laptop from work that's running a highly locked down Win 7 Professional onto which the IT department pushes updates at its discretion. I doubt it will ever see Win 10, since they've just finished standardizing everything on campus to Win 7.

I too use Mac computers

but I also run Windows on them for the odd program that I need for work, and there is no Mac version. I also like to beta test operating systems, and have been in the beta programs for both Microsoft and Apple. Currently, I'm running Windows 10 on both my 2006 Mac Pro and 2007 MacBook Pro in the boot camp partitions. I run OS X Yosemite on the Mac Pro, and am beta testing OS X El Capitan. So far both seem very stable. El Capitan is noticably faster, especially on older hardware.

Mine downloaded overnight but still took an hour to install, etc. Seemed to work well until I screwed around with what ever her name is. Ended up putting everything back to default settings.

It's downloading now...

Win 10 has been downloading on the Dell for about an hour and a half and is at a little over 70 percent. I'll post back when the upgrade is complete.

It is finished!

It only took four and a half hours, but the upgrade is complete. I'm accessing the site in MS Edge (the replacement for IE) and everything seems copacetic. I don't think I'll be turning this machine into a Linux box right away but that's always a possibility.

The upgrade process, though time consuming, is pretty easy. If you don't see the little upgrade button in the lower right corner of your screen, you'll need to run Windows updates repeatedly until it shows up. That's what I did for almost four hours Wednesday night. Once you see the upgrade icon, just click it to get in the queue for your upgrade. I signed up in the wee hours of Thursday morning and my computer began automatically downloading the upgrade around 1:30 this afternoon and the whole process finished at 6:00 this evening. Through that whole process, I had to click the mouse only once to actually initiate the upgrade once the download was complete. The interface looks basically the same, although the start menu looks kind of like the Windows 8 interface. Performance seems a little snappier than it was, so that's a good thing.

Three days ago, I was skeptical about the upgrade and I'm still not a Micro$oft fan by any stretch of the imagination, but now I'm glad I went ahead and did it so this old computer can stay at least somewhat current for another year or two.

Me and Cortana have a rocky relationship already. I'm using ATT (yes, I know) with a 'dry loop' for Ooma. It seems if phone is being used Cortana encounters a 'problem' "Try again later". Also started building calendar but missy won't tell me what she has.

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

My grandfather had the option to upgrade yesterday but has decided to leave it for now, which is pretty much what I advised until Microsoft has straightened out most of the knots.

Me personally, I'm still running Vista Business so I couldn't upgrade even if I wanted to (which I don't!).

WINDOWS 10

They just announces that there are several bugs with the new Windows 10 and they are going to have to create and release a patch. Trouble all ready !
Since it is going to be available free for one whole year, I would definitely wait until all the issues are worked out.
