VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

It was getting late, I forgot to get over to Morrisons Sweepers and garmined my way up to Akron and Stan Hywet, The Goodyear Rubber company founder's Sieberling mansion to do a quick self-guided tour.

Worth it because the Aeolian organ, whcih was restored about 5 years ago, is now played every ten minutes from midi files of the original and 100's more Duo-Art Rolls. For the Season it was playing Christmas themed rolls and I turned on the Ipod to get sound recordings surreptitiously, as they do not allow photography inside the house. I shall flagellate myself as penance as i listen over and over again...

Picked up a couple of books about Goodyear and Rubber and Dirigables and it was time to beadle across into Pennsylvania.

Leaving Akron for Cleveland Ohio it began to snow heavy, as I mentioned above. Once across the Pennsylvania state line I hit the first Rest Stop.

Found this great Super 8 in North East, PA past Erie just by the new York border that is a reconditioned Knight's Inn. Here I am comfy and warm and well fed in familar surroundings.

Glamour shot of new Steamer, Hoover Solution cleaner and...a Garland Green floor and rug nozzle.

There, now I am totally up to date. I will head for home in daylight on Sunday passing through Buffalo and Niagara Falls NY to lewiston bridge. approximately 4 hours from Stratford.

Dave

Thanks ever so much for taking us all along with you on your special recent trip via photo's. I have seen some of the places that you visited in Ohio since I live here. The most special comment from you tho, in my opinion, is that while you were visiting with Tom Anderson he told you he still "monitors" the club. That is great. As I have written many times before here, I really miss his informative knowledge that he had for us in the past. I am certain you had a great trip as shown in your pics. Thanks again Dave.

Sunday 6PM.

Home in Stratford to remnants of yesterday's snow dusting the lawns. Don't have anything to shovel, even.

Arriving in Buffalo I went to my favorite Train & Hobby shop...and found miniature cast metal coffee can Hoovers with a black cloth bag. About 3" high. Snatched all three off the hook. pix later of all the other miniatures they stock - amazing. Toasters, blenders, a box of Kleenex, washers and dryers...even a tiny MixMaster.
Watched the Lionel & HO model trains for a while then wandered into the plastic model section. Had no choice but to buy Uncle Martin's spaceship and the copper plated War Of The Worlds War Machine.
Bought my last tank of gas and sprang for the Car Wash. WOW! Best car & hand dry I've ever experienced. They use an air hose to blow water out of the seams around windows and mirrors and softcloth-dry...after you pass through the touch-less auto-washer.
Through the border in 4.5 minutes. Welcome back to Canada at 1PM.
Something I pass by all the time and never visited - I went to the Hamilton Wartime Heritage Airplane Museum. Lots of pictures.

car, which is as clean as it became in Buffalo, is half emptied and in the garage - s'posed to rain tomorrow. Good day for the final postings to this thread.

There!!

Sure is a lot to see in this old world!! You just have to take time, get in the car, and on the back roads!! Don O Conner did some brushrolls for me years ago, they are still good as new, some of us need to get him involved in the club again, we need to learn these repair techniques, because when some of these older repair guys are gone...we are out of luck!! Not to mention the information that is in there minds! looks like you had a great trip!!!

Wow, I wish I had money to buy as much as you! I will be lucky if I can afford another Vacuum Cleaner in the next year let alone whenever the mood takes me...

Absolutely, Hans. And I'm taking that time while I am able - with the Gawd's Charity, until the day I finally fall off my perch.

Tom A was telling me that Don O'C told him that as long as he has the boar's hair he will continue to re-bristle for anyone. Once the materials are gone...well. best not to think about it.
Looking forward to receiving my rebristled Premier roll in a few weeks - Christmas package mail will no doubt delay its arrival.

Hopefully I buy wisely and on sale at a bargain. Then again, when I see something I approve of I then do intense web & personal research to confirm my impressions and purchase accordingly. As for the funds...I'me 58 yo, gainfully employed and have been at this thing called a responsible life a loooong time.

Dave

and this thread ain't finished yet...the Fat Lady ain't bellowed her Swan Song yet...later tonight.

Thanks Dave....

I absolutely LOVE taking these journeys with you... Seriously - keep up the great work in documenting and photographing your travels... Makes me feel like I'm right there...!

Thanks heaps!!
Cheers

The last Chapter

When I woke up in North East Erie there had been a light fluffy snow. So light you could blow it off with a puff; First trying the snow brush it all just blew back in my face like a busted pillow. Gave me a laugh, since the sun was shining.

This is cottage and boat country and i expect lively in the summer but at this time of year it's deserted 'cept for me, the truckers and the Country Bar beside the parking lot.
That's a silly 3 story Hotel right smack up against the RodeWay Inn but even that couldn't shut it down.
