My favorite vintage vacuum would have to be the hoover convertible because they are so practical and so reliable and so attractive that if I see one on eBay or one at a garage sale or thrift store I can't pass it up if the price is right. My least favorite vintage vacuum would have to be kirbys. I like kirbys but they are so heavy and clunky that I can only use them in certain rooms. The thing I like about kirbys is all the weird and goofy attachments that everyone bought but rarely used. A lot of people used the floor scrubbing attachment and the buffing attachment but people didn't use the sanding attachment a lot or the drilling attachment. Some of the attachments they came with where a bit tacky but that's just my opinion. I'd like to hear your favorites and least favorites. :)

just to grab and use..

A Model G Electrolux, my least favorite to use, A Rainbow, too messy, but as strictly collectables, a 150 Hoover, a Apex Strato Cleaner, the 50s-60s Kenmores,All Lewyts,Filtexes, GE canisters.any Constellation or Hoover tank .I dont collect and reall do not like much of anything after about 1980...most of my vacuums are 50s and 60s with a very few later models., and the majority are tanks and canisters,,they outnumber the uprights 4 or 5 to one, I havent counted in several years, but I think I have over 200 vacs now.

My favorites would be Rexair, Compact, and Electrolux. All before 1960. Uprights would be pre world war 2 Hoover. My least favorite of all time would be anything made by Kirby. I can't stand that machine.

Most favorite...Kirby, Eureka, and Hoover. Great machines and such fun to use!

My least favorite...Dyson and Oreck. I also do NOT like canisters or tanks. I only collect uprights.

My favorite vintage vacuum would have to be the Kirby DS50. It is such an elegantly designed machine, so powerfull and lightweight at only 11 pounds. It is only half the weight of the new G series Kirbys.

My least favorite vacuum is anything made by Dyson. They are such overpriced pieces of plastic that breakdown often, are noisy, loud and have only mediocre performance.

MY favorite are

Compact Electra C9 vacuum shes my daily driver because my grandma had one like it so i grew up whit one now i'm 24 and i have my own . My second favorite would be my newly acquired Electrolux Model ZB 86 and my lux discovery 2 .I collect and use any thing from 1960 to 1990 why 90 the year i was born .Also a Hoover Celebrity iv elite my childhood vacuum that my mom had .Now vacuums that i hate lets see here , Dyson just to much parts and to bulky for my taste . If i want a bag less machine ill pick a rainbow or filter queen why ? powerful quiet reliable . So to sum it all up COMPACT ELECTROLUX HOOVER AND KENMORE .

During the time I owned an Electrolux Model G, it was fantastic. No portable vacuum I've heard of was that quiet(no pun intended). I could clean our hard floors under cathedral ceilings and not be overwhelmed by noise, nor was anyone else in the house. It had just enough suction, wasn't too heavy, and maneuvered well. I really think the Model G was the acme of the Electrolux company, if not the vacuum industry as a whole. Additionally, I'll take any Convertible any day.

I am not a big fan of the Dial-a-Matics. As much as I love Hoover, I find them too clunky and I'm not a big fan of the way the motor sounds. I always found the traditional Hoover beater bar brush roll to be very inefficient with the bypass motor design; there simply is not enough airflow. The Concepts were a huge improvement in my opinion, but Panasonic did an excellent job improving upon the DAM design.

I favourite vintage brand is Hoover And my least favourite of all time is Kirby and i don't like hoover UK[this post was last edited: 10/6/2014-20:30]

Well, my bestest, bestest, most favorite vacuum of all time is...is, now let me think about it for a minute. It's coming, it's coming, I almost have it! WHY,  IT'S A KIRBY...YEAH!!! There are so many cheap plastic explosive vacs, I really don't even know where to begin with my least favorite one, on account, that they are all so equally crappy. But I can tell you this with an undying certainty, that I would rather unclog the filthiest of sinks than to lay a finger upon one of those abomination's!  Check this link out and you'll know what I mean.

If you look really hard, you just might see a Dyson is the culprit...enjoy!

I generally can't stand

Most new vacuums except for sanitare, Kirby, melie, and others similar to that. I was talking about more vintage vacuums but some new ones are okay too. My least favorite NEW vacuum would be the dyson. The one that my grand parents had started smoking a week after they got it serviced. It was only 3 years old.

My all-time favorite.

This was the very machine that started my interest. I was only 2 years old when I saw it eject.

In 1986, the husband of the lady who owned it had it shipped to me. She left it to me in her will, and I never knew it, till I got the letter with the machine. By the way, this was bought only three weeks after the model was introduced in 1952.

As the Belden plug was replaced, I removed the cordwinder, and was using the one shown here till I could replace the Belden plug.

Yes, this is my daily driver!!!

I too must confess, that is my most favorite Electrolux! It almost looks like it should have vacuum tubes in it, not even to mention, that Art Deco feel it has. If I was only allowed one canister in my collection, that would be it!

sries,

so just how many packs of cigarettes was the Dyson up to a day!?

Your truly blessed that it didn't raise your grandparent's home to the ground, and subsequently, cause a conflagration which would've most surely consumed the whole city, and left tens of thousands homeless...sifting through the ashes!

Thank you Mr. Dyson for your superior quality...NOT!!!

Favorites-Kirbys,Metal Royal uprights,Tacony Tandem Air machines.NSS M1 "Canister" machines.Compact-TriStar canisters and their clones.
Least favorites--ANY MODERN bagless vacuums.Dysons,Dirty, clacky, clunky things. They creak and flex as you push them.Parts fall off.Rainbows are better than Dyson-but just too messy to use.But the Rainbow sales pitch is correct-if you empty the water bin outside as I do when I use one of my Rainbows-you are getting the dirt out of your home!

FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE VACUUM CLEANER

MY FAVORITE VACUUM WOULD HAVE TO BE THE HOOVER AERODYNE MODELS 50-51. MY LEAST FAVORITE WOULD BE FILTER QUEEN AND ROYAL.

Hi,

<span style="font-family: book antiqua, palatino;">Hi, Well I've said it before and I'll say it again....
smiley-wink.gif
Kirby!! They are my favorite whether it be vintage or contemporary. Style, performance, quality etc. My least favorite are bagless machines in general as well as the cheap plastic vacs you get on the high street/big stores. I'll try not to pick on any one brand as saying what you dislike can quickly turn in to brand bashing...

Best Worst and Weird

Being in the vacuum business I have to say Kirby hands down as the best vacuum cleaner made today. Royal is a close second however, now most of their machines are just Hoover Windtunnel clones which I can't say is a bad thing but come on be original here. Panasonic is good as they have always been. Carpet Pro "Taconey" makes a good cheap vacuum.

my absolute least favorite vacuums would be anything Bissel, Dyson, newer Eureka, Newer Lux"or as I call them Eureculux", New Rainbow " Due to their hipocracy 'if your vacuum requires a filter or a bag, its loosing suction' and yet there is a $59.95 a year HEPA filter on the new E2"a.

All that having been said there are some honorable mentions and weird ones their was a Regina made in the 70s 0r 80s you bought in a set with a canister and a hand vac i really liked "couldnt find a pic" and bison i love those my dream vac is a Scott Fetzer Sanitation System but I wouldnt mind having a 505.

this is a d50 I restored

Both of My Kirby DS models..

I'm still amazed at how much grit/grime and pet hair I get (with just a small Chihuahua) with each bag dump and they seem to fluff my carpet and raise the nap better than even my Heritage and Classic Omega. When I empty the bag on my DS50 or 80, I almost always get a good "football" sized mound of crud - and this is on fairly new carpet vacuumed twice a week with a bag cleaning done with each thorough vacuuming. Not only are these machines still extremely functional, they have that great vintage/antique and almost "mean" look with those large bags. They work perfectly in my smaller home, get into areas much easier that the larger Kirby's can not and they are great for using on area/throw rugs. I love that the motors don't scream at me either..

Favorites and Least Favorites

I generally love all vintage vacuums from Rainbow to Hoover and everything in between. Although, some stick out as being better to me. I have two Air-Way's and they are fantastic. Perfect for my house. Kirby is my favorite machine all around. Just my opinion. The 510 was given to me by Fred S. and I bought the Heritage I from Chad at Milwaukee's convention. Thanks guys for the beautiful Kirbys. Oh yeah, my least favorite(s) would have to be modern machines. (There are a few that are good) Old is gold to me and I love everything appliance, music, and car related old. Have a great day everyone.

Caligula

I agree cb123! That is my favorite Electrolux. I love the styling, the colors. Everything about that machine is just beautiful. That is one Electrolux I have been looking at for a long time. The old Electroluxes are hard to beat. They are amazing machines.

Favorites? Hmmm. This will arch some eyebrows but my fave is a Panasonic Jet Flo 240. It's a quiet and sophisticated vacuum, lots of suction and you can see the love lavished on them at the factory. Every bit a high end machine.

My favorite modern machine is also a Panasonic, the MC-CG-937. Knock yourself out and spend another grand on a trendy brand like Aerus Lux or Miele, but you aren't getting any additional value for all that extra expense. Panasonics might not be trendy but they are sturdy, durable and do everything the more expensive trendy brands do.

My least favorite are cloth bagged uprights. Been there, done that, never again.

Favorite and least favorite?

My favorite models are the pre-G Series Kirbys, particularly the DS50 and Classic III. I also LOVE the older Electrolux canisters. I have an XXX, E, L, and Ultralux LX from 1989 (same as the Grand Marquise). The Ultralux has more sheer suction and airflow than any other canister I've used. It's by far my favorite "power team" canister. I would still love to find a Model G.  Hoover is definitely an honorable mention in my collection, I have a 28, 300, 2 Concept Ones, and a plastic base Convertible.

I don't want to bash brands by any means, but my least favorite manufacturer is probably Dyson. I haven't used them a whole lot, but the last time I did, I was utterly unimpressed. It was no surprise that the Classic III whooped the Dyson's butt.

I included a picture of my current Kirby project for your viewing pleasure. It runs fine and is fully functional, and I just can't get enough of that HII bag I put on it. It also has a new G series 12 blade fan, and is the quietest Kirby I have ever heard.

Well my most favorite would be any Electrolux, including the L's, Kirby or Royal products...least favorite would be Compact.
