I have a Gtech Pro 2, and I think it's design is a bit like a vintage Pinnock Premier vacuum from Australia. The bag seems to hang from a slot which lets you see the dirt in the bag, and the airflow works diagonally towards the motor, like how the Pinnock worked, which at the time was called cyclonic action.
The Pro 2 design is quite familiar, the difference being the Pro 2 is handheld, the Pinnock Premier was a cylinder. But I think it's still pretty amazing how a cordless vacuum of today that is bagged was made only slightly like a rare vintage. Quite remarkable.

Yes, definitely Kirby and Sanitaire. I would add Aerus (formerly Electrolux USA) to the list but they discontinued their classic metal canisters some time ago.

Henry and other Numatic machines have not really changed much since their introduction in the 1980's.
Of course there have been small internal & external tweaks like the parking bracket, 3D face & introduction of smaller buckets but the design stays very similar in fact you can put a 2020 HVR200 head on a 1980 HVC base.

I believe Hoover still makes a commercial vacuum based on the old Convertible design but I seem to remember reading on here a few months ago that it was being discontinued.
another classic design with staying power that I had initially forgotten about is the twin-motor Electrolux upright that debuted as the Discovery II lives on under Aerus and a couple of other brands, both for commercial and household applications.

TTI has moved on from the Hoover Guardsman (Convertible) and the Conquest, they are both long gone.
Speaking of which, my favorite would be the blue Oreck XL Commercial. They have been making this exact same model ever since I was a kid without making any changes to it. Well at one point they did changed the outer bag before going back to the one that they had been using previously.

I've never used one - but for you industrial vacuum fanatics, the NSS M1 "Pig" is still unchanged.
Kirby, when they recycled the 516/Sanitronic motor design for the American Lincoln Super Sweep from 1968-1982, the similar Super-Vac 180 from 1982-1985, and the COMVAC 1300 also from 1982-1985.

I've always thought that the Dual Sanitronic 50 would be the ultimate commercial machine. It's lightweight, durable as heck, and a great performer. Plus it's the first model to have increased power through a higher speed if you need to use a hose. It would be even better with an actual beater, an upgraded motor (for a bit more power), an option for F-type Kirby disposable HEPA bags and the near-indestructible Amodel fan.
I could have sworn that the housekeeping department of this motor lodge outside my hometown had Dual 50's (could have been Sanitronic VII/562 too) on their maid carts -- this was in the early 2000's. I don't think I mistook them for Royals (which were still being produced) as they definitely had a tan bag and my grandma had a Dual 50 which looked identical to what they were using. Unfortunately, this motor lodge is long gone (the main part of the motor lodge burned down about five years ago, only one small building of rooms are left and it's boarded up). They were probably still using them up to the fire. I wonder if they purchased them new or if they happened to buy them slightly used from a vac dealer? This was the first and only time I've seen a Kirby being used for commercial use.

The kirby f@g exhaust is closet to three inches. It will not perform with type f setup. The outer bag releases no air. If you put a f&g hepa that's the only route.
If you got a cb motor put a single a Speed 6 amp coil from a royal it would probably fit.
The airflow on my super sweep is quite impressive.

I also wonder if some of those Kirbys you mention that particular motor lodge purchased were also rebuilt 505-561s with the tan trim replacing the original gray/red trim (which would have been as far back as the mid 1970s and again in the mid 1980s)?

Never crossed my mind that the tan-bag Kirby could have been a pre-Sanitronic machine refurbished by Kirby or a dealer. I just assumed it was a 562/S7/D50 as the motor lodge was probably built in the early/mid 60s and they bought them new or new-ish. Either way, I think it's cool that they cleaned the rooms with a Kirby.

The Fairfax canister vacuums are one of my new favorite designs with that big metal dome. They have basically maintained the same design since the 60s with rather minimal changes. Unlike a lot of "tub" style vacuums like a Silver King or water-magic they actually accept a bag and you can get a proper HEPA cloth. Made INCREDIBLY well too! I've attached pictures starting from the first Fairfax (to my knowledge) all the way to the recent model, The two in the middle are mine.

Hoover still has the guardsman listed on the commercial website, but I’m guessing it’s a special order. So they count (even if the guardsman isn’t widely sold anymore). Kirby’s another one that I know that still uses an old design. Although they have modernized the design of the machine, it’s still the same fan facing forward, and bag the side design from 100+ years ago. Those are my favorites. I’d also say Royal, but now it’s just dirt devil. I’m not too familiar with other brands (as in I’ve not really used them) so I can’t really call any others my favorite. Oreck, unfortunately, I’d say I don’t like at all. The fill tube just looks too narrow that it’ll clog. And while good on them for having a design that has stood the test of time, unfortunately previous experience with an oreck magnesium (it always clogged!) has forever shaped my view of their machines (particularly because the size of the fill tubes has always stayed the same).
I like the surviving bagged "fan-first" classic Sanitaire uprights and Oreck lightweight uprights. For canisters, give me any of the classic European bagged canisters: Miele, Electrolux, Philips, AEG, Numatic, Vorwerk, Nilfisk.

Ah, that’s a shame. I wonder why Hoover still has it on its commercial website under some of the industries though. Sad to see the guardsman be discontinued, but at least it had a VERY long run (starting back as the convertible)! I hope that some company at least took over production of those cleaners! It would be a shame to see a time tested model disappear from the market completely!
