The most I've paid for a vacuum cleaner wasn't really for the vacuum cleaner itself but the shipping cost to get it here.
About 10-12 years ago I happened to find a beautiful, near-mint Electrolux Model V (1924, their first model) on eBay. It came from the Black Forest in Germany. It was complete, with the original coiled metal hose, all the attachments, and the leatherette & wood carrying case.
Well, I was the only bidder. It was around $US50.00 and I was elated.
But the shipping ... O.M.G. ... The shipping was over $US200.00 because the seller shipped it International Airmail! He sent the machine first and then issued an invoice to me -- a verrrry trusting ebay seller!!
Even with the high shipping cost, I was thrilled to have it; it was and still is one of the 'flagships' of my collection. The seller did a fabulous job of packing it and it got here perfectly intact.
I did learn from that experience, however, to get a shipping estimate before bidding on something from outside the U.S.!
