I got the idea for this thread from tolivac's comment in the Kirby 510 dumpster find thread when he said the 510/11 would have been from the year he was born.

So what favorite vacuum cleaner(s) of yours came out the year you were born?

For me, it would be the Electrolux Model E-Automatic, and the Kirby 516 -- both 1956 vintage. "It was a very good year."

(P.S.: I put this in the "Vintage" Department because I believe/assume most members here are 20 years old or older.)

Was glad I sparked an idea for vacuums relating to members birthdates-this could be interesting! So remember that Kirby-used it thru my childhood-and watched Mom use it,too.Dad dumpted the bag in the gardens! So the dirt was "recycled"-Put back outside.

Kirby 512

I was born in 1952, hence the Kirby 512 is it for me. My parents bought a Dual Sanitronic 50 in 1965 so I remember that one growing up as a kid. The DS50 is now my favorite Kirby and I was able to get a really nice one on ebay recently for $52.00.

As for me (born in July 1981), the Kirby Tradition 3CB was then the vacuum being made (except for the fact I'd rather find one with the locking headlight, a feature they stopped doing at the end of 1979 due to the problems with the speed switch which were consequently just caused by user error), although that would be replaced soon by the Heritage 1HD.

I'm also 1962

I didn't know what vac was launched in 1962. Thanks for the info.
Maybe the Hospital Model G is why I like turquoise so much. That probably was the first vacuum-cleaner my little eyes ever saw!

I was born in 1964

And that is the same year that the Hoover Convertible model 70 was born! Here's a picture of mine, fitted with a Hoover "Dust Meter" (I think that's what it was called!) and being enjoyed by John Long, Matt Geda, and Rob Shore at my first Mini-Meet in Pittston.

DYSONS in a vintage thread!?!?!?!?!?

This is madness! I wouldn't consider Dyson vintage if it grew and paid me!

Charles, is this thread a way to see some beautiful old vacuums, or find the age of your fellow Vacuumlanders?

Alas, I am also too young for this thread! Thankfully, not that young! I likely would've bought a FANTOM Thunder, my parents made the same (and well-worth-it!) Investment! They even gifted a Cyclone XT to my Grandmother (really my Mother owed it to her after leaving her Rainbow on the water basin!). I would buy Fantom today if they still were around, Dyson couldn't make me blow money on their poorly-made plastic status symbol of a vacuum if they tried!
