An Electrolux 502, 2nd of the 500 series (the first being 500, don't ask me about the 501 I really do not know ) made in the heady year of 1975..

I did have a 502 but it had changed to a sort of weird brown/terracotta colour due to the sun or something, it was grubby, chipped and scratched (mostly on the cleaning head) and eventually the handle snapped off..

and i'm only paying for the postage so it's a good deal ;]

I always wondered how these worked. As far as the dirt path goes, they seem to be the same as the US Lux uprights. How does the hose attach? At the top or at the bottom back? Or is that a dial back there? I've always liked the looks of these vacuums. Very Euro if you pardon the expression. I've seen these also labeled Viking but i guess Electrolux makes them. Nice cleaner!

The dial is on the hose inlet cover, lol so yes the hose goes in the back like say, a Dial A Matic. The dial is used for controlling the suction (it's just a simple valve) with the electronic (or the 504 which had a slider on the front of the cleaning head, see my collection thread to see that) models the cover is just solid plastic. And yeah, they're an Electrolux Europe design and I guess Viking and Dometic were the brands used in the US and Canada so as to not interfere with the "aerus" luxes.

Nice one Ian, the colour looks great no fading there, these are a superb vac and can be used as a combination as well, the tools simply plug in and where the same full sized set as the cylinders etc...Marty, heres how they plug in..

Good grief. A few months ago when I discovered this group I had one vacuum. Now I have seven in my collection (yes, I know it's quite small in comparison to most) and my wish list continues to grow. Marty, do your parents have another spare room they're not using at the moment? Help. I'm running out of room. Ida, it's time to call the realtor and take the parka out of storage. It's a good thing my Volvo has seat warmers. Excuse me for that tangent--I went way off topic.

Collecting!!!

Ohh Mike, once you have started!!!! I only started collecting in 2001, I`ve been in Electrical Retailing since leaving education, beginning of 2001 we where renovating said house and I went to a house clearence looking for a log burner...fire was sold but I found a Kirby Tradition in the hall on the way out, all the boxes including Handy Butler, saw & polisher...£30 quid, thought I`ll have a play and can always ebay it later, searched on the web for spares and found the "Classic Appliances" as was, they where organising the 2001 convention at Roberts, they asked the question"Why dont you come over" I`d been conversing about 6 months with the guys...so I booked a £199 ticket and had the time of my life, met up with Robert, Greg, Scott, Rich, Roger & Terry amongst others and great friendships began....

I've been asking myself that very question.

I've thoroughly enjoyed looking through the pictures of your collection over the past few months. Very impressive.

And, boy can I relate to being a clearance sale addict in need of therapy. I can tell we're going to get along famously. Anytime I see a "sale" sign I'm hooked. Perhaps we can get a group rate at a rehab center.

And, as you wrote, these are some of the nicest guys I've ever met--sincere, genuine, kind, gracious and generous to a fault. I have some truly wonderful friends outside the vacuum/appliance world; however I feel as if I've finally found my niche. I'm amazed at how many traits we all share in common, many unrelated to vacuums or appliances. I'm enjoying the camaraderie and friendships more than anything.

I think I read somewhere that you're going to be attending the Omaha convention. I hope this is the case, because I would really enjoy meeting you.

Hope to see you in September. It will be so fun to actually know someone in the UK, the next time I visit.

Excellent Stuff!

so you'll basically have Electrolux's entire mid 70s domestic upright range. Marvellous! Even though I worship at the altar of the Great God Hoover, those Luxes have a certain charm to them. They're like a DAM with the flaws ironed out. I covet your 504 by the way!
