Herewith the photos of the mighty maid as it was known in South-Africa.
Although this is a VK116 ET4 Type 26 in essence of the late 60's the red version the mighty maid, was sold along side the following et10 et 20 VK117. At least that was in South African markets.
The original type 26 Vk116 et4 had a metal fan, as well as a metal cooling fan and at a whopping 200 Watts, this commercial stick, fitted with bushes top and bottom of the suction motor, did not live for 40/50 years. In that instance the machine would start with a whistle like sound and staggeringly become worse with time.
Yes, I guess the bushes could be replaced, leaving you with the same incounterment in the not to distant future. The weight of all the metal fans was a step for improvement.
Here the models prior to the VK 117 et10, and also the first introduction of the VK 117/ ET 10 had the metal structure in the top motor.
Haven said that, the mighty maid as in the pic, with the striking red colour, was introduced with a Teflon, suction fan, and a nylon enhanced cooling fan. This did away with the metal fans, decreasing the weight and increasing the speed, giving carbon brushes a longer life. The cord guide on top of the handle was not the push button as up to the VK117/ ET10, but as the later versions of the VK117 ET10 and further models where the cord simply slide in. The cord hook was also turned on the top and no longer as previous and early V117 models on the bottom hook.
The ET4 attachment carpet electro head, has 2 carpet height adjustments, which unfortunately became a bit technical, involving taking off the cover plate, and turning the bush end caps sliding it back into its slide. It only has 2 settings, One and two, and your discretion would lead you to see that the brush roll protrude at least the 2 mm for cleaning the carpet pile
drive belts was a slight problem, hence WHEN SWITCHING ON THE MACHINE, THE DRIVEBELTS STRETCHED IN ORDER TO GET THE BRUSH ROLL TURNING THROUGH THE PILE OF THE CARPET.
I love this little machine hence always had one around growing up in the family. Being compact enough it reached everywhere, under low based furniture and then the accessory kit which was pretty more basic to the beige and green Vorwerks manufactured, but in essence did the same job of suction, blowing and the electro brush roll.
I have noticed that Vorwerk/ kobold is Tommy's forte in Milan, hence here goes.
Many many Thanks
Adrian
