Panasonic upright + Eureka mighty

new Panasonic Platinum upright MC-UG583 + Eureka mighty mite canister...

What do you think of this duo? A local mom and pop vacuum shop owner recommended, he of course, uses this duo at home, as he is a Panasonic retailer. And he says this is how a lot of maid services clean.

Tried the Panasonic and loved it. It was smaller, light weight, easy to maneuver (I have weak arms), metal brush roll and metal bottom plate that could be opened without unscrewing anything so I can clean the brush roll. I have 3 dogs, including a golden retriever who broke my Bissell.

Big selling points for me were the metal bottom parts, how quickly it moved across the carpet and it has three rows of bristles on brush roll, and it's low profile, 7", almost could get it under my bed, almost.

And I also loved the Eureka for it's compact size, I can carry it easily in one hand while vacuuming. I have 2/3 hard surfaces and 1/3 carpeting in my home.

Negative of the Panasonic was you can't turn off the brush roll! Because of 3 rows of bristles, it sounds horrible on hard floors. I couldn't use it on hard surfaces at all because of the noise.

He wants $300 for the Panasonic, $100 more than the online retailer. Not sure about the warranty though. Nice shop owner, wouldn't mind giving him my money for good service.

And I haven't forgotten about the nice recommendations for Panasonic Canisters, but I just tried a Kenmore Progressive, and it seems heavy and awkward to use, so not sure if that's for me.

Anyway, any thoughts on Panasonic and Eureka?

Grrrr!

Just a minute after I posted this thread, this arrived in the mail, replacement for the roller brush for my Bissell. See pic. And this is why I will never buy another vacuum from a big box store again, and why I'm on here asking so many questions before I buy the next one. What a pain, constantly replacing cheap parts with more cheap plastic parts that don't even hold up in the mail. No plastic end caps on roller brushes from now on.

Sorry, I digress, had to vent.

This Panasonic design is based off of the original Kenmore's of the late '90s. I have two of them and they're awesome, very quiet and very powerful. It has the quick draw hose so it's really convenient when you need the hose for something small. There is no on/off brushroll but my Kenmore does pretty decent on bare floors, although I'd still recommend a Mighty Mite for bare floors and heavier attachment use. Or you could also get a cheap attachment set and plug the longer hose right into the back of the machine for better above floor cleaning. I tend to do that and use the on-board hose for "quick-ups".

Here is a picture of the Kenmore set up for above floor and bare floor cleaning. It's extremely convenient with the long hose and the crazy amount of suction these have.

Also, a little bit more pricey...but this model includes a metal bottom plate and brushroll. I figured I'd throw this one the playing field for you as well.

Those Panasonics are also pretty similar to the Simplicity Symmetry/Riccar Vibrance line. From experience I'll say that the Simplicity 6-series does a bang-up job on carpets and cat hair; if the Panasonic is similar, I think you'll be quite happy with it.

I had a Kenmore like the one in the photo. It was a good vacuum, fairly quiet and cleaned well.

The Eureka Mighty-Mite is a good choice as well. The only issue I have with them is the newer 12 amp ones are very loud. The older ones had a lower amp motor that had plenty of power without being very loud. Otherwise they are very useful machines, good attachments also, or can use standard size attachments.

The Mighty Mites are great compact vacs. Better to get the high end Sanitaire Red or Blue versions as they come with a better set of Eureka World Vac tools and a metal telescopic wand. Nice 8 foot hose on these as well, along with a German carpet/bare floor nozzle with metal sole plate.

My only issue with the older Mighty Mite II's is that the powerful exhaust blows a strong wind of air out the back right onto bare floors, kicking up surface litter and dust bunnies before you have a chance to clean them up. Not sure if the Hepa Filter on the Sanitaire versions helps diffuse the exhaust stream of air.
