Hoover coffee cans

Were these polished up to a shine when new?

I've got a 700 to restore, was wondering if you shine it up like a Kirby. It's in pretty rough shape, the rubber wheels and bumper have disintegrated.

Shining Coffee Cans

Most of the coffee-can Hoovers, which would include the model 700, were finished in bright polished aluminum and can be re-polished. A couple exceptions might be some earlier and more primitive models with rough-castings (as shown). Then there was the model 541 in 1923 that was introduced with a satin finish, but I've seen some polished as well.
The attached photo, as an example, is of a rough-cast Hoover Baby c.1922. Hope this helps.

Bernie! That is such a beautiful model 450!!!

It beautiful in its own way. Heck even for being cheaper than the 800, I still love it just as much!

I would kill for one of those bags too!

Oh and John, yer darned tootin I won't ever make a mistake like I did with the 68! It was a big loss on my part. Financially you would say the opposite. I think it brought me over $200 on ebay. You can't find them like that anymore, all intact.

I nearly fainted when I saw Greg Nunn's example. It very well could have passed for a Vault machine.

I love your 450, too. What a gem. Your vacuums are beautiful. So are yours, Brandon, and John, and Josh. OK...I'm getting Hoover vapors..............J

Hey Bernie,

Yes, thanks, that is quite helpful.

What do you do for parts for something this old? As I mentioned the wheels and bumper are toast.

Hoover colection

some fantastic machines there you had such a wide range of colours where as us brits had a limited choice Hoover design was second to none love those old hoovers if only they could speak just think about the stories they could tell

Brandon....

You never cease to amaze me. What a beautiful monochromatic display of blues with the 68 in forefront of that magnificent mid-century range.
"Those were the days!" (forgive me, Edith Bunker)
