This is two fold post, First to show some of the vintage vacuums displayed in my shop. I absolutely Love the look of them, But I have a problem I can never seem to keep the Kirby's and Royal's shiny. I buffed these all up about a month ago too look like new but they loose their shine very fast.

Do any of you guys have idea's on how to prolong the shine ?

U use a heavy duty buffing wheel and the same equipment that Kirby SA uses to buff there Kirby's, I use a Alloy Polish called Marine shine but still they use

Is the area where the Kirby and Royal vacuums kept humid? In my area it is VERY humid and polishing would be constant.an airconditioned space helps! The AC removes most of the humidity.Thats a really cool vacuum display!!do customers ask if the machines are for sale?

Customers don't want to buy them but I love it when they look in absolute amazement and say " Oh My my mom had one just like that" Its lovely to think of these old machines when they were new and the latest model. I had one lady cry as it made her think of her Mom who had Just passed at the age of 98.

That happens to me almost every day. People come to the Vacuum Cleaner Museum and find 'mom's' old vacuum and get all sentimental about it. Some people get very excited seeing the vacuum they used as kids. Some people remember the person who used to own that model and get all sad on me. In the end though, they're all good memories and people leave smiling.

Excellent display. Perhaps touching them up once a month with a light polishing with Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish would help. That's what we do here at the Museum.

Thank you very much, while this is not all of my display it does pale in comparison to yours. I will give the once a month polish a try.

Vintage vacuums are vary rare in SA as people here just throw away old stuff. So its taken a long time to build up my collection of true Vintage vacuums. I wish I could get some coffee can Hoovers.

Hey Gareth: I can help you get a few nice coffee can motor Hoovers. Don't know how much shipping would cost to get them to you though.

Gareth

The best thing to maintain your Kirby's shine is to use Flitz - it is next to none, and the absolute best thing you ever can use, I kid you not! I live in Mobile, Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico, and the humidity even in winter time can be in the high 80's - A REAL HOSTLE ENVIRONMENT !! Flitz is for metal, plastic and fiberglass ( really good for cleaning your guns ) it's anti-corrosion protection is the best I've seen or ever used. About a dab on a old sock will clean a whole machine. I use a feather duster to get all the dust off my Kirby before I do anything to it, because dust will scratch and dull the metal faster than anything. I've learned this from cleaning telescopic mirrors. Never wipe dust off with a rag! (www.flitz.com)   Gareth, is that the 506 pictured in the upper right of your photo? If so - not bad, not bad at all! Oh yes, the Flitz comes in a silver 5.29 oz. tube, and it will last forever.       Calem

the best thing to maintain kirby shine is high quality car wax. flitz polishes, it does NOT preserve the shine. i polished my tradition 2 years ago and it still shines like the day i finished it. i use mequires ultimate paste car wax. works superbly, but is a bit pricey at $25 a can. but i never have to worry about corrosion on my vacs, even the painted ones get waxed.

Take a look at these and remember, little circular motions, and of course the tool is only as good as the one who uses it. This is the proof, and the proof is in the pudding. These have all been polished only once, and you will go blind before you'll ever find a blemish on them - THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
