What would you pick?

I am looking to buy either of one of these, the Hoover appeals to me with it's long 12.5m cable & 4.5m hose which could reach into the ceiling corners etc. However I could only find a refurb one for £69.99 on eBay.

I also like the look of the Vax Zoom Reach Upright, how that has a 3.2m hose & a 10m cord, I also like how they come with a 2 year guarantee & are only currently £64.99 in the Argos sale.

Which one appeals to you most?

Well, doesn't the Turbo Power have multicyclonic suction? Less cleaning on the filter there.

The best compact bagless upright IMHO is the Vax Mach Air Reach - 230972020159 EBAY UK for a refurbished one at £74-99 though if you seek Google UK for the U90 MA-R model number you may be able to get a new one at £100 to £130 with the 6 year guarantee.

The Vax Zoom cleaners use a low efficiency, direct filter cyclone that's prone to clogging up. They're also very loud and, at 2200w, they heat the room up.

The only good thing I noticed about them, was that the cable is ridiculously long - you could absail down it!

Not much difference between 2000 and 2200 though.

Chris is right - and a single cyclonic doesn't mean much these days when you're the Vax company; still plenty of cleaning to do. There are three main filters on this machine, adding the pre-motor filter at the bottom above the motor.

At least if you get the Hoover Turbo Power you're getting a far eco friendlier motor at 1600 watts and multicyclonic but still the Vax Mach Air Reach is better offering 1200 watts.

One lesson I learnt early on when it comes to purchasing a vacuum cleaner is to try and source the user manual - that way you get a clearer idea of the maintenance and what to do it if all goes wrong. Methinks you're just in love with the colour of those Vax Zooms...

I did like the design of the Zoom but have now decided on the Turbo Power as they seem quite good for the price, plus the fact you ger 4 extension tubes.

What is stopping you? I mean, genuinely. I'd find it hard, knowing in the back of my mind that if I wanted a bagless upright again there would be no question in my mind it would be the Vax Mach Air Reach. As good as the Hoover is, the Vax is smaller, yet has a bigger extension hose and a 12 metre cord.

To get the best, i'll describe our house:

We live on the upstairs floor, downstairs being tile/wood with small rugs. Upstairs in the Main Living Area/Kitchen there is wood with larger area rugs & in the hallway/bedrooms & bathroom it is all carpet. In the bigger study room it's quarry tile with 2 large rugs & several small ones by the doors.

I think I might choose the cylinder as I already own a Hoover Freedom which does a great job - thanks for your help!

I seem to remember a discussion regarding the cyclone system on the turbo power cylinder, and that the exits to the cyclones easily got blocked with dust. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if this is the case I would avoid the turbo power cylinder.
Good luck
Scott

Singing rainbow is absolutely right - I bought a TP Cylinder on sale for £50 in the local store, and indeed I noticed the cyclone cones were getting blocked. I removed the cyclone assembly and sawed off the tip of each cone to make them larger exits, but the dust now catches on the edges of where I sawed the cones off, and blocks again. Not a good design. I can say that also having the TP upright as well, it runs rings round the cylinder version and is better than a VAX zoom any day, as I have read some pretty negative reviews on the Vax Zoom on Argos website.
Steer clear of the TP cylinder model - its rubbish, the same goes for the Jazz cylinder as its the same vac, just different colours.

I always thought that with cyclone technology, only fine dust enters the actuak cyclone rathher than the big bits of dirt
