Now that I own the newer style TriStar, I have to say that it's more powerful than the old CXL.

Things I like about the EXL:
1. One-step connection (all hose/wands/power brush are direct-connect)
2. Super powerful suction
3. Uses the same bags & motor filter like the older TriStar/Compact
4. The dusting brush & upholstery nozzle are adjustable; just twist the tool to desired angle
5. MiniStar ELECTRIC mini power brush instead of turbine powered tool
6. E-Z cord wrap
7. Improved post-motor filtration; doesn't restrict airflow/suction like older TriStar
8. PN housing made of heavy-duty cast aluminum
9. Suction control relief valve
10. Handle end of hose swivels a full 360o

Things I don't like about the EXL:
1. The tools are reverse-fit (like Electrolux Epic 6500)
2. PN doesn't have headlight
3. No automatic cordwinder
4. Tools store on wand instead of on the canister unit like Kenmore Whispertone
5. Wood brush roll instead of metal roller with replaceable bristle strips

The ONE thing that it needs is a variable speed suction motor.

All in all, it's now my daily driver & I wouldn't trade the EXL for any other modern vacuum. :)

EXL in action

Vacing the living room rug. I haven't vacuumed the rugs in quite a while because vacing this rug is tricky since most of my canister vacs seem to "eat" this living room rug; even with a straight suction rug nozzle & the suction control valve fully open.

With the new style Electrolux roller that has the extra turn of bristles, I can REALLY feel the whole floor vibrate. :)

I attached the tool holder onto the canister unit's handle so the tools are easier & more convenient to use.

Those are really nice vacuums.  When I got the one I have, it had mold all over the motor.  So that gave me the excuse to upgrade it to the newest Tri-Star motor.  I really do like the tool caddy on the wand.  It stays in place and the tools are quickly accessed.  I also like the fact that it has an on/off switch on the handle and that the power nozzle can be used on bare floors.  There are numerous things to commend it.  However, I'm not certain the Electrolux design power nozzle cleans as well as the old CXL power nozzle.

Why won't this one fit my EXL?

This one has a tab inside where the wand gos; but the wands don't have the slot for the tab.

I don't know if the EXL & MG Series tool holders are diffrent?

I don't know if this motor is an Ametek?

My EXL & MG2 both have this motor; the HEPA motor filter fit perfectly. :)

My guess is it's a 2-stage twin-fan motor?

That 2-stage motor will fit into MG1, but you need to use the motor mount that's specific to that motor.

Yes, that motor should be the one in your EXL. The one in the MG1 is a very small one stage motor that is rather short lived compared to the two stage motor in yours. Here is a picture of the motor actually in the body. I have a picture of the motor in a MG1 as well that burned out already and was replaced.

The motor on the left is the MG1 crappy motor, just showing a comparison to a Kenmore canister motor (ordinary two stage motor). These small motors dont last that long.

well that explains a lot

I found it odd that you said it was a great performer but it makes sense if you have the two stage motor. With the dual stage motor it must have greater airflow than the VM3 motor in my MG2 because while it's a decent vac it's not great due to it's lack of airflow, i see the know JEI motor has a little more airflow to it (about 35 for the VM3 and 42 for the JEI)

I believe this is the motor that should be in the MG2. To me it seems like such a rip off when they charge $1500 for this crappy little thing, compared to the motors that were in the CXL, DXL, etc. for the same price.
