My mom bought shag carpeting in the early 70's. Before that she had hardwood floors covered with an
oval rug in the dining room and a large rug in the living room on top of the hardwood floors. I bought
her a Hoover model 70 NIB as she was using a Westinghouse straight suction cleaner at the time. When
she remodeled the living room with new drapes, couches, tables etc, she put in wall to wall shag carpet.
I bought her a NIB Hoover Model 70 and it worked great. It had a normal and shag setting. It worked
great, she didn't even have to change the setting to the shag setting. Her carpet lasted for years and the
Hoover even worked on the hardwood floors in the bedrooms as long as you put it on the shag setting,
for quick pick ups.....dust mop for under the beds.....
With that said, these newer carpets like frieze (not sure of spelling), have warnings from manufacturers.
The CRI (Carpet Rug Institute website gives recommendations for vacuums for different carpets.)
